[ed. comments below]Americas North 7s
Rugby Canada pulled out of the Central Coast 7s where they would be playing Fijian and Australia opposition and went with the Americas North 7s where they'll be playing the likes of Martinique, Barbados, Jamaica, etc. USA won't be there. It's great for morale as they'll be enjoying the sun and putting up the points from T&T but they won't be tested and prepared for the level of play they'll experience on the World Rugby circuit which starts in Dubai in December.
We've heard the following names heading to Florida for the camp, from there a team will be selected to go to Trinidad for the tournament. The new coach will meet them in Florida as he doesn't have his papers to work in Canada yet.
Caleb Jordan, Phil Berna, Luke Bradley, Mike Fuailefau, Justin Douglas, Pat Kay, Kyle Lagasca, Matt Mullins, Liam Underwood, Nate Hirayama, Karsten Leitner, Harry Jones, Luke McClosky, Isaac Kaay, Mitch Santilli, John Moonlight, Adam Zaruba, [plus a few new names]More on Americas North 7sWorld Rugby Training & Education Conference in Richmond
World Rugby, Rugby Canada, and the Coaching Association of Canada (CAC), have partnered to present the World Rugby Training and Education Conference in conjunction with the CAC’s 2016 Petro-Canada Sport Leadership sportif conference (#SLS16) in Richmond, British Columbia. This is the first time Canada has played host to World Rugby’s annual conference.
“World Rugby and Rugby Canada’s leadership in coach education and development is exceptional,” stated Lorraine Lafrenière, Chief Executive Officer of the CAC. The quote according to the Rugby Canada website. One question BCRN has is if the coach education is so exceptional then why are we always hiring coaches educated elsewhere at the national level? So what did you think of the APC and Canada's performance? Canada were the only country to go without a win. The Americans were thumped by Uruguay but we can't laugh because USA beat us so disappointing is the word. Were there any players who will get a look at the November tour? Barkwill, McRorie, Parfrey, Rumball, Heaton, Ferguson, LeSage, Baillie were part of the summer tests. LeSage came through this tournament as the hero, scored in each game. Baillie was sat out for the last two games, not listed as injured. Kainoa Lloyd looked good but Canada have some good finishers out wide with DTH and Taylor Paris. The young second rows Keys and Wadden perhaps? We'll wait and see.

Closer to home the BCRU competition committee decided to keep relegation in for another year. This is part of the ruling sent to clubs:Last night, the Competitions & Event Committee discussed all feedback received through conference calls and emails with Clubs from the top four Men’s Divisions, after which the following came to light:
- The number of fixtures required in the spring for a 12-team Men’s Premier League, accommodating Clubs’ requests for tours, byes and other circumstances, and not allowing for field closures, simply cannot be accommodated within the spring calendar;
- With no teams being relegated, the knock-on impact on Division 1 and Division 2 had the potential to significantly and unacceptably compromise those divisions due to introducing Georgia Strait travel and a reduced calendar of fixtures; and
- Significant concerns were raised regarding the timing relative to our current season.
Based on all feedback and these listed factors, the Committee was unanimous in their recommendation that relegation will remain in place for the 2016/17 season.
The issue will be studied in more detail for the 2017-18 season.
