CW 10 @ James Bay 12

The hard nosed Ben Johnson typifies the type of rugby required in the trenches and the Bays ground out a 12-10 win over CW thereby ensuring a home fixture in next weekend's Barnard Cup final. More details from Phil Meyer in the coming days.

PREGAME
The winner of this match will host the Barnard Cup, a decided advantage, next weekend. It's likely the big guns will be back from Europe then so the lineups will look different. Connor Braid, of course, is gone for the season signing a short term contract with Worcester. CW have a formidable front three as do the Bays, both teams are well stocked in that category for the spring season. In the second row, captain Graham Harrison is missing for the Bays, that will be a factor. Jim de Goede also absent from the starting XV, not bad replacements though with Adrian Wadden and Shea Wakefield. The Canada U19 West camp is taking place at Shawnigan so a few young players missing from the lineups this weekend. The danger men for CW in the backline are Mike Scholz and Anton Ngongo, for the Bays JWR and Sean White. Should be a close match and the question is how will the Bays respond after being embarassed by UVic the week before. At home they should come back with a roar. Prediction: Bays by 5.

JAMES BAY

UVic @ Westshore POSTPONED

The fields were closed at both Westshore and UVic so the game is postponed or perhaps cancelled as it means nothing in terms of the spring league or final fall standings.

PREGAME
Westshore still looking for a win this season, neither team have anything to chase in the match in terms of hardware. It's the last regular season match with UVic planning for Premier in the spring and Westshore looking to regroup for Division One. Westshore played UVic tight for 40 minutes last time the teams met but the talented UVic backline eventually shredded the Westshore defence in the second 40. It could be a repeat this weekend. Prediction: UVic by 15.

WESTSHORE

Mainland Div One and Two

Surrey claim both titles with a 19-6 win over Kamloops in Div 2 and a win over United in Div 1 (no score reported). Surrey seems to be flourishing as a club and perhaps there's some lessons to be learned, here's an article from last season that gave some insights into their success.

PREGAME
Surrey hosting both these matches, undefeated during the regular season it will take something special for either United (Div 1) or Kamloops (Div 2) to spoil the hosts party.
