It's a brilliant bit of publicity, something Rugby Union in Canada could learn from. You create a reality TV series around tryouts for a rugby club, add in some international flavour and let it fly. It's what Rugby League have done in Canada with the Toronto Wolfpack. A group called the Last Tackle Reality TV Series is filming the tryouts which were held across North America and the Caribbean. Eighteen hopefuls were selected from the tryouts and shipped off to the UK to play a selection match against a Yorkshire team called the Brighouse Rangers. According to a Canada Rugby League tweet there are 5 contracts up for grabs.
There's no word if the game will be streamed live or if it's just to be used as part of the TV series.
They even have players who are already on contract pushing the show and the game.
Whether you're a fan of Rugby League or not you have to admire the creativity they're bringing to marketing the game. It's a result of Rugby League in Canada taking the jump into profesionalism - something Rugby Canada turned down when presented with the opportunity. It will be interesting to see how the Wolfpack season unfolds in Toronto.
Also good luck to Quinn who heads back to Canada after the match to tour with the Canada U19 team to California.
