Thunder 7s at Shawnigan Lake; Women's XVs Sendoff for Rugby World Cup

Not a lot happening rugby-wise in BC this coming weekend. Starting today at Shawnigan Lake the Thunder 7s takes place, mostly an Island affair with a few players travelling from the mainland. Both national team coaches will be present to take a look at the talent and help promote rugby 7s in the area.
On Saturday the BCRU are hosting a send off for the national women's team who start their World Cup campaign next month. Rugby Canada are also holding one in Toronto on July 25th. Thunder 7s
The Thunder Aboriginal Youth Rugby program are hosting this tournament at the end of their week long camp at Shawnigan Lake School. The Tsunami North Island program is providing most of the opposition with their Gold medal U16 team (PRCs) looking to add more hardware. The Thunder women's programs are looking strong this year with Mandy Marchak as the head coach. The Boys U18 bracket may be the most competitive with Thunder, Tsunami and Westshore looking to be evenly matched. The tournament ends with two senior men's games, Island North v South, with some talent added from the mainland and out of province. Women's Team World Cup Send Off
The BCRU hosting a send off for the women's team this Saturday at Westshore where many of the team play their club rugby. On July 25th Rugby Canada are holding a larger scale send off in Toronto.
