Rugby Canada Media Announcement Tuesday at BC Place: Meet the Coach and Announce Venue for World Cup Qualifier Versus Uruguay
The Vancouver media will get a chance to meet new head coach Kingsley Jones at the BC Sports Hall of Fame at BC Place on Tuesday at 10am. They will also announce that BC Place will host the Rugby World Cup qualifier between Canada and Uruguay. Tickets will go on sale on Wednesday.
Canada gets first crack at Uruguay in the home and away series on January 27th before heading back to Uruguay and Estadio Charrúa outside of Montevideo on February 3rd. Canada might need to build up a bit of a lead before heading south so a dry indoor track might be better than making the South Americans slug it out in the cold rain/snow of January. It's likely a financial decision first as Rugby Canada could use some coin from a full house but some may feel it's a gamble depending on how the team performs in November, first at BC Place vs NZ Maori and then in Europe vs Georgia, Spain and Fiji. Canada didn't draw well at BC Place when they played Japan but the NZ Maori game sold well. Uruguay aren't a big draw in terms of prestigious opponents but the match is of critical importance so how will the peripheral rugby fans and the general Vancouver sports fans respond in January?
It might be Canada's most important match in recent history as the result will go a long way in determining Canada's attendance at the 2019 World Cup in Japan.
