Canada U18 Tour to Hong Kong

March 27 2018

Canada Win Second Match 62-0 Over Hong Kong After Losing First Match 28-24

It's difficult to imagine what would turn around a result from a 4 point loss to a 62 point win. Unfortunately we can't find the Hong Kong rosters to compare their lineups or even the first Canada lineup to make comparisons. Canada travelled with 28 so a maximum 5 player changes are possible along with a rearranging of assignments. In any case the result is positive.

It was worrying to lose by four to a team that has traditionally been ranked well below Canada. If we go back a decade, Canada's men were 14th in the world and Hong Kong were 28th. A match wouldn't have even been considered. Now however Canada are 21st and Hong Kong are 22nd, hence we are playing them at the junior level and will be playing them in the repechage come November at the senior level to get into the world cup.

While the information from Rugby Canada is sparse, the information from Hong Kong Rugby Union is non-existent. What we gleaned from the Rugby Canada twitter feed is as follows:

7-0 Austin Creighton try
14-0 Will Matthews try
21-0 Jarvis Dashkewytch try
24-0 Brock Webster penalty
31-0 Glenn Buttler try
36-0 Dean Mason try
43-0 Will Matthews try
50-0 Alex Brundage try
55-0 Liam Casey try
62-0 try
