Vancouver, BC - July 3, 2018: BC Rugby announces the departure of Dean Murten, who has lead the rugby department of the Provincial Sporting Organisation for four and a half years. Dean will be joining the UBC Women’s Rugby Team as their new Head Coach for the upcoming academic year.
“I would like to thank BC Rugby staff, past and present board members for the support they have given me, and more importantly the amount of hours they all put into making the game better,” said Dean Murten. “I know I leave BC Rugby in a good place with strong leadership and hardworking committed staff.”
During his time with BC Rugby, Dean has overseen the success of the Elite Youth Sevens Boys & Girls programs, the design and delivery of the BC Rugby Academy, ensured the leadership of BC Rugby in player welfare and has, throughout his years with BC Rugby, coached male and female representative sides at both senior and age-grade levels contributing to the success of those teams and many individual players.
“On behalf of the BC Rugby Board and staff, I wish to thank Dean for his tireless and passionate contribution to Rugby in this Province and to this organisation,” said BC Rugby CEO, Annabel Kehoe. “It’s rare to find great technicians of sport be able to manage the sport at a greater scale, and while ultimately that love of coaching has drawn him back to the pitch, Dean has been an invaluable team member and both Board and staff join me in wishing him all the best in his new role.”
With this departure, BC Rugby is immediately commencing the search for a replacement. While Dean will remain with BC Rugby throughout the summer, applications are being sought and must be submitted no later than 5pm PT on July 13, 2018. A full job description and details on how to apply are published at bcrugby.com/careers. First-round interviews will take place in late July with the aim to complete the recruitment process for an early September start date.
