Seattle Seawolves Win Inaugural Championship 23-19 Over Glendale Raptors: Full Match Video

Glendale were favourites going in, they had won the two regular season matchups but this was a winner take all scenario and the Seawolves played a smart, effective game while Glendale had a bit of the championship match jitters.

Seattle have five Canadian players in the roster Ray Barkwill at hooker, Cam Polson at second row, Phil Mack at scrum-half, Brock Staller at wing and a late change, Mozac Samson at 23 as a replacement back. [ed. it looks like Brock Staller was involved in the late change and didn't play in the match]

A quarter the way in Glendale lead 7-3. Seattle struck first with a penalty but Glendale used a lineout and maul to power their way over the goal line to take the lead. Seattle had a chance to close the lead but missed a kick at goal from 30 metres out. Ray Barkwill scored the first try for Seattle, peeling early off the back of a driving maul he powered his way over the line to put Seattle ahead at the half 8-7.

10 minutes into the second half Glendale again go to the lineout and maul attack and again drive over for the try, 12-8. Seattle are being patient and putting phases together but Tim Metcher gets turned over and the ball gets hoofed downfield, openside Vili Toluta'u makes a dreadful attempt at reclaiming the ball and kicks the ball into Glendale's possession, they oblige by adding another try, 19-8. It's not looking good for Seattle with just over a quarter left in the match.

Vili Toluta'u makes partial amends for his error with a storming run off a lineout it leads to quick ball off the ruck and outside centre William Rasileka touches down, unconverted and it's a 19-13 match.

Seattle strike again a few minutes later, winger Peter Tiberio with a strong run down the wing finds #8 Riekert Hattingh in support and Seattle are now in the lead for the first time 20-19 with 17 minutes left to go.

Seattle get a penalty for a Glendale offside and add another 3, 23-19, with 13 minutes on the clock. Seattle grind out the remaining time and become the first MLR champions... congratulations.
