Atlantic Rock Defeat Ontario Blues in Quebec: Full Match Video
It's unusual to see a CRC game in Quebec but they are part of the Atlantic Rock and this time they hosted at Concordia University with commentary in french. Since Francois Ratier has taken over the top position in Quebec we've seen their influence grow and their on field performance improve as well, in junior and now senior play. In a few years it wouldn't surprise us to see Quebec have their own CRC senior men's team when the summer tournament rolls around.
The Atlantic team had some players who were mainstays in BC for a while at the club level but then disappeared off the rugby landscape. Top of that list is Jordan Wilson-Ross, looking a bit older but just as effective on the pitch at #12. Jamie Mackenzie at #9 has maybe lost a step since his UVic days but helped the Rock get the win today.
It was a back and forth battle with the Rock leading at the half 24-22. Andrew Ferguson scored first for Ontario with Cole Keith responding for Atlantic. Next Sheppard and Pomroy exchanged tries for a 17-17 scoreline. Kainoa Lloyd put Ontario ahead before the Rock mauled one in at the halftime whistle, 24-22.
The Rock forwards again came into play with #8 Murphy scoring from a 5 metre scrum, 31-22. Atlantic added a penalty for a final 34-22 win and a +12 going into game #2. BC will play the loser of the series, Prairie will play the winner.
The teams will both be missing their Canada A players for Tuesday's match as Canada Selects travel to France to play Castre and Clermont.
