Repechage Updates: Canada Centralized Training, Kenya v Namibia, Germany Hire New Coach
Canada probably have the best warmup schedule of the repechage countries as they face Uruguay A, Argentina XV and Tonga A in October.
The Canadian men were going through their paces at Westhills Stadium in Langford today with Kingsley Jones and his coaching crew. There was no sign of the 7s players who were reported to be boycotting the new mandate for joint training with the XVs players. In the background can be seen the lone figure of Damian McGrath the national 7s coach, looking like a coach without a team right now.
Kingsley Jones came over to have a few words, trying to avoid the controversy surrounding the Rugby Canada decision and instead focus on his job to prepare the team for the upcoming Americas Pacific Challenge and the repechage. He indicated about 10 players were heading east to play with the Ontario Arrows against Glendale Raptors next weekend. He also indicated about 8 U20 players would be offered carding when they return from Romania. It's not clear whether all will accept but expect the likes of loose forwards James O'Neill, Michael Smith to be on that list. Will Percillier the scrum half, Brennig Prevost fullback, prop Gavin Kratz, second rows Quentin James and Tyler Duguid. It's wait and see on the confirmed list.
There appeared to be about 28 bodies (including coaches) in the mix today as a light rain began to welcome the fall season in BC. It doesn't appear any of the players are being released to the local clubs who are starting their season this weekend.

Germany hired a new coach to prepare them for the repechage, "Germany have hired Mike Ford, the former England and British Lions defence coach and Bath and Toulon head coach... The statement said that the 52-year-old Englishman, a former Great Britain rugby league international, was taking a "sabbatical" from his position as coach of the Dallas Griffins, who plan to plan to join the Major Rugby League next year."
