Open House Events Planned for September 14th & 15th
from Vince Herlaar
Open house events at MacDonald Park
Dates: September 14 & 15, 2019
Yes, the beginning of September means leaves are turning and school zones are back in effect BUT that also signals Rugby season is upon us!
Once described as a barbaric sport played by gentlemen, it's image has gone through an evolution over the decades and is now an Olympic sport played by elite athletes. In Victoria, we are lucky to have the Canadian National Training Centre in our backyard and are privy to many international test matches.
British Columbia has long been a hotbed of rugby talent feeding not just the many National programs but also the professional circuit that now includes the MLR (major league rugby) with many Victoria boys playing in Toronto, Seattle and beyond.
James Bay Athletic Association, one of the oldest rugby clubs in Canada is hosting an Open House for the curious or seasoned young athlete that wants to try a different sport. An opportunity or calling for all kids that like to rough house whether you are eight or eighteen and wonder about the glorious sport of rugby.
All junior players: Ages 14 to 18 of all genders are invited to participate in a skills session with the senior men on Sept 14 for a minicamp. Contact your age grade team through the JBAA website if you are interested.
JBAA Touch 7s Tourney - all participants in TRAINING DAY are randomly drawn by division for teams in a double knockout competition. There is no fee and includes lunch for all players. Alumni players are welcome to participate, please contact Tom Woods to register.
Try Rugby for KIDS! Ages 7 to 13 of all genders are welcome to join us on Sunday Sept 15 - 10am to 11am please arrive a bit early. Snack will be provided.
