BC Women's U18 to World School 7s

The BCRU announced that they're sending a team to the World School Sevens in Auckland, "BC Rugby is delighted to announce that they are sending a Girls’ Sevens team, the BC Elite 7s, to the World School Sevens in Auckland, New Zealand. The tournament will take place on December 13-14 this year and feature 32 U18 boys and girls teams from over 10 different countries."

The tournament organizers have it listed as a Canada team so it was surprising to learn it is being packaged, possibly funded, by the BC Elite 7s program. The team is a mix of Rugby Canada Development Academy players and BC players. The head coach is BCRU Development Manager, Darcy Patterson.

We've seen a number of the players in matches and there's some top talent on the squad. Fancy Bermuda-Chavez and Amelia Gordon were on the Thunder U18 team that won the Langford 7s in September. Kara Peary impressed in last year's BC High School XVs tournament and is now part of the RC Development Academy. Summer Blackmore also impressed in last years BC High School XVs tournament. Delaney Woods was a standout in the BC High School 7s tournament, and is the daughter of well-known former Canada player, Tom Woods.

We wish the team all the best. Last year Canada sent a men's U18 team to the tournament, and they're doing the same again this year. The roster for that squad hasn't been announced yet.
