Westshore Weekend Match Reports: Tough Day as VVs Hosted the UBC Old Boys
by Clancy McDonnell
Premier Men: WRFC 15 - UBCOB 60
It was a tough day at JDF as the VVs hosted the UBC Old Boys. Although there was some promise in the opening quarter, the home side couldn't withstand the onslaught. We do love to see Toby Berg bustling through a gap, and there was one notable big play when Taylor McGuire's passing skill gave Spencer Jones a bit of time further out, and he skipped through on a big run that resulted in a try to the VVs.
But the rest of the time the Ravens looked more threatening and converted more opportunities. They moved the ball around well and had the individual and collective energy to thrive in traffic.
Coach Aaron Frisby flagged the skill and depth of the opposition on the day, saying "we struggled to compete after losing a few starters in the first half."
Premier Reserve Men: WRFC 12 - UBCOB 66
Similar scenes for the 2nd XV, as the visitors outshone the home side.
Women: WRFC 57 - Comox 31
A nicer result had opened the day earlier, with the ladies playing some good rugby on the way to a half century, allowing the party planning committee to set things up well for the evening Halloween festivities.
Westshore is running a 50/50 fundraiser - 200 tickets at $100 apiece means the prize will max out at 10K take-home to the winning person/conglomerate. This will be a significant financial fillip for the club as we enter the second half of the season. Email either Barney (email@example.com) or myself and we'll get you sorted.
There is a makeup game this weekend, with the premier team playing down at Windsor Park on Saturday with a 2:30 kick-off.
