More Overseas Opportunities Opening up for Women: In the Spotlight This Week Gabby Senft and Mackenzie Carson

It just so happened this week two Canadian players were highlighted in articles online, one from Australia on Gabby Senft and the other from the UK on Mackenzie Carson. England and Australia are at the forefront of providing professional opportunities for women in rugby and this is in part based around their existing professional league structures for men.

In the UK the latest iteration of the women's premier league was the 2017/18 season, as explained on the league website premier15s.com "For the 2017/18 season the competition became known as the Tyrrells Premier 15s and clubs were invited to apply for a franchise in the new competition with 10 places available in the newly formatted domestic competition. This was part of a £2.4m investment by the RFU in the women’s game over a three-year period."

Mackenzie plays for the Saracens who won the championship last year and are undefeated so far this season. Harlequins are their rivals at the top of the league standings.

In Australia it's a 5 team competition called the Buildcorp Super W and feature familiar Super Rugby franchises such as Queensland Reds, Melbourne Rebels, NSW Waratahs, Brumbies and Western Force.

Gabby plays for the Queensland Reds who were finalists the last two years behind the Waratahs. Their 2020 season starts in February.

We also went through our searchable archives to find a brief history on each player and how they progressed through local club and representative teams, that's appended below.

"If there's a silver lining to the news that the Reds will be without Wallaroos star Millie Boyle this season, it may have come in the form of Canadian international Gabby Senft."
