Canadians in Action on Saturday in MLR Opening Weekend

The MLR kicks off this weekend with two matches on Saturday and four on Sunday. The matches can be viewed online on the MLR facebook page for Canadian viewers, except the Arrows game which is on TSN 2.

The weekend schedule is posted below, on Saturday the two matches are Colorada (formerly Glendale) at Houston. There are no Canadians in the match, Noah Barker was with Colorado last year but has returned to the BC Premier this season. One to watch off the bench for Colorado is former All Black Rene Ranger. Houston also no Canadians on the squad, Justin Fitzpatrick was the original coach at Houston, formerly the Seattle Saracens coach. They put together a great live stream vs the Tasman Mako one week but then failed to post a roster online on Twitter for the season opener. Getting mixed signals from them on how organized they are. Houston finished 7th last year, Colorado 6th. Give this one to Colorado on the Rene Ranger factor.

The other match is Old Glory at NOLA and lots of Canadians in the mix on this one. The Washington DC team has a lot of Canadian content Travis Larsen who has played for the Bays and BC lines up at #6 and in the backline there's Ciaran Hearn at #12 and Doug Fraser on the wing. For NOLA Eric Howard at hooker and Kyle Baillie second row. Going with Old Glory on this one, more Canadians and they've figured out how to put a roster up on Twitter.

We'll preview Sunday's games tomorrow.
