The team selection was made following successful BC Bears U23 Women ID & Development Sessions on both the Mainland and Vancouver Island, as well as the Squad’s Development Camp at UBC’s Gerald McGavin Rugby Centre in Vancouver in July. Across four days, players from across BC took part in an array of drills, skill development challenges, and team-building exercises to help Coaching staff identify BC’s top athletes.

“It’s great to see Westerns back in the competition schedule again. We have a good group of young athletes that are looking forward to playing some fast Rugby. We know Alberta will be physical, so for us to play the way we want we must dominate the contact area. This will be a huge challenge against a much older, more experienced team. It’s a challenge we’re looking forward to.” BC Bears U23 Women Head Coach Dean Murten

The purpose of the Western Canada Championships is to foster the growth of competitive Rugby and provide an important pathway step through best-on-best Age-Grade competition to develop athletes towards National Team honours.

The Championships aim is to provide an appropriate development stage of competition to motivate, challenge and inspire young players, as well as Coaches and Officials.

Scores and results will be available on the BC Rugby website throughout the weekend.
