Summer 7s Reminder: Season Starts May 19th [ed. John had email problems from April 22 to 26 so if you sent him anything relating to the Langford 7s and haven't heard back, please resend.] Posted April 27 2012 A reminder to 7s fans and players that the summer season starts May 19th with the Langford Long Weekend 7s at the Bear Mountain Stadium. The Canadian U20 team will take on the USA at the same stadium the following weekend. Contact John Lyall (250-217-9031) to register your team ($250) or register as an individual ($25) to play on Winston Stanley's Langford Barbarians team. With Jamie Cudmore taking part in the Heineken Cup semi-final this weekend for Clermont, it is interesting to note the only Canadian player to win a Heineken Cup championship to date is Winston Stanley with Leicester in 2001. An early look at entries indicates that Phil Mack's team and South Seas will be strong contenders. Western Washington University, Velox (2 teams), Abbotsford, and North Island look to provide some suprises. It's free admission for fans so not only a chance to watch great rugby 7s but check out the new Rugby Canada digs as well. The Luxton Pro Rodeo (May 19-21) is also taking place in the Langford area that weekend so for Vancouver fans, stay overnight and take in some bull riding on Sunday or Monday. Later this summer will be the Victoria International 7s (July 13-14). This isn't open to local clubs but fans will want to catch the action as this will feature several high level international teams. Last year Canada defeated top Fijian club Ratu Filise to win the title. Doug Tate is busy lining up top teams for this year. Here is the weekend schedule. Victoria International Sevens July 14, 2012.
