Provincial and National Competitions Announced for U16/U18/U19 Age Groups - National Women's Championship Venue Announced posted May 2 2012 PRCs and National Championship Festival The national championship festival which promotes inter-provincial competition at the U16 and U18 level will be held in Sherbrooke, Quebec this year from August 6th to 12th. BC did well in the competition last year, winning the men's U18 title with a 38-33 victory over Ontario. The BC men's U16 team was dominant, winning the final 88-5 over Newfoundland. In women's U18 play, BC finished second to Ontario, losing the final 34-18. The PRCs (Provincial Regional Championships) are the provincial selection and preparation tool for the national championships. The inter-regional competition takes place from July 6th to 8th at UBC. Last year there were U16 Men’s (9 regions), U18 Women’s (4 Regions) and U18 Men’s (6 Regions) divisions. Vancouver Island South won the U16 title, Fraser Valley won the U18 titles in both men's and women's divisions. U19 National Competition The national U19 competition will take place in Alberta at the Nor'Westers Athletic Association's fields in South-East Edmonton. The competition takes place July 11-15. This is the second year for the competition which used to be the U20 championship, the change was driven by national coaches who wanted to see players at an earlier age for the national U20 program. BC didn't enter a team last year as they were organized for U20 competition not U19, so this is BC's first year in the competition. Unlike the U16 and U18 levels where there is a corresponding Provincial competition to prepare and select players, there is no inter-regional competition at the U19 level. So how the team is selected remains to be seen. National Women's Championship The senior national women's championship takes place in Québec City this year from June 29th to July 1st. BC entered two teams last year, a U23 side in the Tier 2 division and a senior side in the Tier 1 division. The BC U23 side won the Tier 2 while the senior team placed 3rd in Tier 1.
