Canada Defeat Italy to Remain Top Pool B and Second Seed in Tournament

Canada earned an important bonus point in the match against Italy which currently puts them as the second seed in the tournament as England managed a narrow win over France with no bonus point. Currently NZ are top seed with 10 points and a +68 point differential, Canada are at 10 points but with a +46 point differential, England are at 9 points with a +71 differential. If Canada can get a bonus point win against USA, they would retain the 2nd seed.

BC Premier Regional Week 5 Results: Pride Edge Vikes in Friday Night Match; UBC Overpower TWU, Bays Defeat Westshore, Burnaby Top Lomas, Rowers Upset Ravens, Caps Clobber Seattle

Week 5 of the BC Premier Regional competition is in the books. On the Island, the Bays claimed the Barnard Cup. Westshore and CW will battle next week to determine the runner up. In the Coastal Cup it’s all to play for between the Pride and UBC next weekend. The Pride are at 4-1 (20 pts) and UBC are 3-2 (16 pts). On the Mainland, teams take next week off in preparation for BC Premier Week 1 on October 29th.

Ebb Tide Over 40 Rugby Club Celebrating 50th Anniversary This Coming Friday and Saturday

The Ebb Tide Over 40 Rugby Club are celebrating their 50th anniversary on Friday and Saturday October 14 – 15, 2022. On the club’s website they note they are the oldest continuously operating Over-40 rugby club in British Columbia. They have active players between the ages of 38 and 70’s and active social members well into their 80’s. They are a member of the Pacific Northwest Over 40’s Rugby Union and players are eligible to play at 38 years.

Women’s Rugby World Cup – 2022

RWC Day 2 Recap with Stats and Video Highlights

Canada got the job done on Day 2 with a bonus point win in their first match. They definitely left points off the scoreboard with handling errors and a lack of finishing but coaches and players will be happy with the opening win and look on improving against Italy. Italy upset USA to go second in Pool B and Wales needed a penalty kick at the whistle to defeat Scotland.

RWC 2022 – Canada v Japan

Canada Defeat Japan 41-5 in Round One of Rugby World Cup: Face Italy in Round Two

The Canadian forwards were dominant and paved the way for victory. Canada scored 6 tries, 3 of them directly by the forwards, 2 by scrum half Brianna Miller working off the forwards effort and 1 by the backs from a blocked kick. Canada weren’t able to generate an attack out wide which will be a concern in the upcoming matches against Italy and USA. Handling errors were also an issue with stats showing 15 lost turnovers in the opposition half.

Americas Rugby Trophy 2022

Canada Name Team for Americas Rugby Trophy Matches in Brazil October 21 & 26

Kingsley Jones has named the Canada ‘A’ team that heads to Brazil for the Americas Rugby Trophy. It brings in some new faces but it still gives Jones the option of fielding a fully capped team if he chooses. He’s well known for naming players to tours and then not including them in the match day rosters, so we’ll see what the rosters look like in the two matches before making a final evaluation.

Autumn Internationals 2022

World Rugby Releases Match Official Assignments for Autumn Internationals: Canada Not Listed in Matches – Moe Chaudhry Listed as AR in Two Internationals

Canadian rugby fans have been waiting to find out who the men’s XVs team will be playing this fall in the traditional Autumn Internationals. We already know a Canada ‘A’ team will be travelling to Brazil to play a Chile XV and a Brazil XV in Brazil on the 21st and 26th of October. We found that out through the Brazil Rugby Union. There were rumours of a match vs Netherlands in November and perhaps Namibia who are also in Europe but those matches haven’t shown up on the match official assignments from World Rugby, meaning they’re not happening, they’re not full tests, or they’re not fully resolved yet. Take your pick.

Shane O’Leary to Arrows

The Toronto Arrows announced the signing of Shane O’Leary. O’Leary had been playing rugby at Rouen in the Pro D2 which is the second level of French rugby. He played for Canada U20 in 2013 and helped them to a second place finish behind Italy at the JWRT. We posted an article on him in 2014 as he was joining Connacht and did an interview in May 2013 when he was preparing for the JWRT and was in Langford. Those articles are here.
