BC Rugby Weekend of October 28th 2023

BC Premier Week 3 Lomas Top Caps; CW Blast Westshore; Ravens Soar Past Bays; UBC Edge Vikes – Coastal Cup TWU Fall to Pride: Rosters and Results

Week 3 of the BC Premier kicks off tomorrow. We count at least 7 players in action who are part of the 32 travelling to Spain with the national team, and another 3 who are in the non-travelling reserves. There are 3 undefeated teams to date Lomas, Pride and Burnaby. Burnaby have a bye this week and the Pride play in a Coastal Cup match this week.

It has been a long road back for Jamie Cudmore, he should have been national XVs coach by now but due to one ill advised tweet he has had to go the circular route. It’s a testament to his character that he’s forged ahead and it’s that type of perseverance and determination that he’ll pass on to academy players, and hopefully, one day, national team players.

Rugby Canada Name 32 Players Travelling to Spain for La Vila Tournament

Canada’s Men’s Rugby Team’s roster for La Vila International Rugby Cup has been named by Head Coach Kingsley Jones. The 32-player squad will travel to Villajoyosa, Spain this November for the new four-team tournament featuring Canada, Spain, the United States and Brazil.

Pacific Nations Cup 2024

World Rugby Announces Pacific Nations Cup for 2024 With Canada in Pool with USA and Japan

There’s been a fair bit of commentary on social media about the competition. Canada comes across as one of the winners as they get to play 3 games in August/September against higher ranked teams. Japan don’t seem thrilled with it as they are stuck with two lower ranked teams in their pool. The other pool is Fiji, Samoa, Tonga so the best Japan can do is a final against Fiji, currently #10 vs #12. Neither Fiji or Japan get access to the remaining top 10 teams.

Rugby World Cup 2027

2027 Rugby World Cup to Feature 24 Teams in Six Pools of Four Teams

World Rugby has been busy today releasing various media releases. This one specifically deals with the 2027 Rugby World Cup. This has significance for Canada obviously as they’re adding 4 more teams and that gives Canada more opportunity to qualify. The details of the qualification process are yet to be revealed.

UBCOB Ravens – October 2023

Open Rugby is the Legacy: Ravens 42 – UBC 24 Match Report

The fifty year friendship and rivalry between these two fraternal clubs resumed at Jericho on a pleasant October day before a good crowd. To add to the competition members of both clubs recently got together and purchased a cup, “The Legacy Cup” to be competed for between the Premier sides annually on a two-game total points basis. Hopefully the two clubs can meet again in the playoffs where UBC will look to make up the now 18 point deficit.
