Is a Canada Summer XVs Tour to Tonga in the Works for August; Coast to Coast Cup Starts Saturday

Tonga?

RNZ, Radio New Zealand, ran a story on Tongan rugby that states they’ll play a 2 game series against Canada after the Pacific Nations Cup and before leaving for the World Cup in France. Tonga play their final PNC match August 5th in Samoa, that leaves 3 weekends of pre-World Cup action remaining, August 12, 19, 26, to fit in a 2 game series. There’s been no corroboration from Rugby Canada or World Rugby yet.

It will be interesting to see if this goes through and who would be on the coaching staff. Jamie Cudmore is back in the country after his time coaching in NZ, I wonder if Rugby Canada would reach out to him to be part of the tour, there are many who would hope they would.

Coast to Coast Cup

The Coast to Coast Cup kicks off this coming weekend with the BC Bears taking on the host, Atlantic Selects. I’m not sure on the live stream at this point but the GM of the host team is John Gillis and if there’s any information to be had, he’ll have it. You can follow his facebook account here.
