A few items to cover Monday morning of interest to BC and Canadian rugby fans. MLR, when is the schedule coming out? The USA searching for a new CEO. Canadians playing in the top European league. MLR Updates

MLR Team Up with Globant

This was announced last week, it’s not too clear specifically what this means beyond, “refurbishing the competition’s Rugby Network streaming service”. The Rugby Network website has started a paid service for watching the English Premiership, how that affects its previously free viewing of MLR matches this coming season remains to be seen.

News Article on Globant and MLR

In other MLR news Ross Braude has left the Arrows and gone back to South Africa, probably explains why he wasn’t selected for Canada v Spain.

Last season the MLR announced their schedule on November 15th 2022. The season started in February 17th, so the schedule announcement came about 3 months from season kickoff. There’s been rumours of a later kickoff in 2024 so the schedule announcement, or a lack of it this week, may be a clue.

Miami is the expansion team and Atlanta is moving to LA.

USA Seeking CEO

USA are looking for a new CEO and the Canadian rugby community might be thinking, “have we got a deal for you”. The Rugby Canada CEO, Nathan Bombrys, is from Michigan, now living in Ottawa. His claim to fame is rehiring Kingsley Jones on a 2 year contract after the men’s team failed to qualify for the World Cup.

The USA have hired Bloom Sports to help in the search, they’re USA based but with a background in Australia. So early bets are either an American or Australian CEO, they’ve recently gone through a couple from the UK without success. Rugby Canada used SRI a UK based service and they found, Bombrys, an American working in the UK, someone who used to work with Kingsley Jones, a small world.
