Canadian Women Shine in Western Tournament Kickoff: Loonies Go Top of Standings

The Loonies women’s team, stacked with Canadian talent, and coached by Robin MacDowell won the Western kickoff tournament on Saturday. The standings count both the men’s and women’s results, the Loonies men came 3rd but their combined results put the Loonies at the top of the standings with 16 points.

The next Western conference tournament is July 15th in San Jose, California, the next Eastern conference tournament is in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on July 23rd. The top two teams in each conference will then meet in the final in Washington D.C. on August 6th.

The Loonies women have the largest contingent of Canadian players in the competition. They won their semi-final match over the Experts 12-10, scoring for the Loonies were Olivia de Couvreur and Shalaya Valenzuela. In the final they defeated the California Retrievers 10-7, scoring for the Loonies were Shosh Seumanutafa and Renee Gonzalez.
