King Edward School (Stratford-upon-Avon) vs Island Tide U18 & U16 at Shawnigan Lake School, Monday July 25th at 5pm
King Edward VI school is touring BC and one of their matches will be against the Vancouver Island Tide, U16 and U18 teams. A quick google search shows there are several King Edward Schools (KES) in the UK – in Birmingham, Southampton and Stratford. The Southampton and Stratford schools have visited the Island before. It’s the Stratford school which is visiting this year. King Edward School in Stratford-upon-Avon is where William Shakespeare went to school in the 1570’s. Likely a half back of some sort if rugby were available at the time, always verbose and questioning on field decisions, “To be or not to be? Whether tis nobler in the mind to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune?” – definitely not a forward.
The Southampton KES team did quite well in 2010, defeating the U18 Tide 54-0. In 2014 a U16 KES team (unknown town) lost to Cowichan U16 25-10. In 2010 a team from Heritage Park High School, Mission, BC travelled to the UK and were hosted by KES Stratford, scores unknown. So over the years there has been a good relationship with both King Edward Southampton and King Edward Stratford schools and BC.
The match is at Shawnigan Lake School on Monday, July 25th, there’s both a U16 and a U18 match, with the first match kicking off at 5pm. There’s also a youth rugby clinic at 4pm.
