BC Rugby Weekend of December 6th 2025

BC Premier Week 10 Results & Rosters: Caps Top Burnaby, Pride Fall to Bays, Ravens Fly Past Lomas, CW Edged by Vikes

It’s the wrap up of the fall season, the last matches before the Dec/Jan winter break. Play resumes January 24th. UBC defaulted their match to Westshore, they’ve chosen to take a game in South Carolina versus USA #2 Life University. That puts Westshore top of the table going into the break, the Ravens have caught UBC in a 2nd/3rd place tie, Capilano sit in 4th place, Burnaby drop to 5th and the Bays claim 6th. The women’s Premier wrapped up their fall season last weekend.

Burnaby Lake 32 v Capilano 46 @ 14:30
Referee: Saro Turner AR1: Lance Davison AR2: Tyler Dawson
Venue: Burnaby Lake Rugby Club

An emphatic +14 win for Capilano and we’re either overestimating Burnaby or underestimating Capilano. Caps go into the break with sole possession of 4th place, Burnaby is 5th. After the break, January 24th, Burnaby will visit Westshore and Capilano will host Pacific Pride.

PREGAME

Both teams tied at 28 points but Capilano have a game in hand. Burnaby lost a close match to Westshore at home last weekend while the Caps had a comfortable win over CW at home last weekend.

Burnaby have a stable forward pack, only one change with Josh Halladay replacing Cooper Johnston in the second row. Tevita Daugunu, the Fijian  7s player, is back in the roster at inside centre. Fynn Murphy replaces Iowane Raturaciri on the wing and Ethan Turner starts on the other wing.

The Caps have Arsalan Schaigan returning at tighthead prop and Logan Weidner at blindside flanker. The backline remains unchanged from last weekend. Izzak Kelly has signed in Portugal with Benfica so will be gone for the rest of the season.

It should be a close match, Burnaby at home with a dynamic backline might have the edge depending on weather conditions. Prediction: Burnaby by +3.

James Bay AA 45 v Pacific Pride 14 @ 16:15
Referee: Cole Pedrick AR1: Madeline Berry AR2: Mckenzie Eckart
Venue: Starlight Stadium

A +31 win for the Bays, we figured they’d win, but not by this much. A few key players make a big difference. The Bays remain in 6th place, well positioned for a playoff spot in the spring. The Pride remain in last place looking for their first win. When play resumes the Bays will visit UBC and the Pride visit Capilano.

PREGAME

#6 hosting #10. The Bays dropping a close match against UVic last week on a Friday night match. The Pride coming off a big loss to the visiting Chicago Hounds academy two weeks ago.

The Bays have Kyle Steeves and Callum Botchar back from the national team tour to Europe. Neil Trainor also returns to start at hooker. Isaac Gonevou gets the start at #10 moving Ty Driscoll to fullback and Kainoa Lloyd gets the start at inside centre. The team has definitely beefed up a bit in the forwards from the last match.

The Pride have their 7s players back from the RAN 7s, Jesse Kilgour and Taine Clague. Young Simroy John gets the start at tighthead prop. Noah Kyneston returns to the roster at hooker and Ian Jones on the wing.

The match has been moved to Starlight due to a soggy MacDonald park, the time has also been changed to 4:15 pm under the lights. The Bays with a couple of national team players returning to the pack should win the forward battle. Jesse Kilgour is an on form scrum half and the battle in the backs will be interesting. Prediction: Bays by +3.

Meraloma 5 v UBCOB Ravens 38 @ 14:30
Referee: Shanda Assmus AR1: Rachel Morrison AR2: Rupert Whiting
Venue: Connaught Park

It wasn’t close in the end with the Ravens claiming a +33 win and looking like they’ll be ready to defend their title in the spring. The Ravens are in a 2nd/3rd place tie with UBC, looking for that first round bye in the playoffs. When play resumes the Ravens will visit CW and UBC will host the Bays.

PREGAME

#8 hosting #3. The Lomas were on the receiving end of 40 point loss last weekend in the Friday Night under the Lights match against UBC. The Ravens had a bye last week but were upset by Burnaby the week before.

The Lomas are missing second row Conor O’Brien, probably their best player in the loss to UBC. Craig Trimble comes off the bench to cover. Jordan Quinn rotates with Rhys Tucker at tighthead prop. Kiwi Elijah Corbett returns to the roster at inside centre.

The Ravens have Canada captain Lucas Rumball back in the roster. Andrew Coe is missing and Gio Sangiorgi takes the #10 role. Noah Bain starts at fullback and Jake Thiel is listed as the reserve hooker, #16, I want to see that. Apparently it’s just due to jersey size but you wear the jersey, you put in the time, it’s the law.

The Ravens had won 5 in a row before the loss to Burnaby, the Lomas have only won 2 matches this season, both against teams in the lower half of the table. Prediction: Ravens by +8.

University Of Victoria 31 v Castaway Wanderers 24 @ 14:30
Referee: Derek Horton AR1: Andrew Owen AR2: Michael Moss
Venue: U Of Victoria- Wallace Field

It was a back and forth game with UVic looking to run away with it but CW clawing their way back into the match through strong forward play. The full match video is below and worth a view, the commentators are entertaining, and it’s an exciting ending. UVic still remain in the hunt for a playoff spot in 7th place, chasing the Bays. CW remain in 9th place and have 8 matches left in the spring season to turn their fortunes around. When play resumes the Vikes will visit the Lomas and CW will host the Ravens.

PREGAME

#7 hosting #9. Both teams struggling a bit in the first half of the season. The Vikes with 2 wins and CW with 1 win. UVic coming off a 5 point win over James Bay, CW coming off a 21 point loss to Capilano.

The Vikes with a stable forward pack, no changes. Sion Griffiths gets the start at scrum half, that’s a new role for him and it will be interesting to see how he does. He has good distribution skills and is dangerous with ball in hand, it could work out well. Josh McIndoe move to outside centre and Dylan Cleaver goes to inside centre. Still no sign of Cooper Coats or Michael Oughtred in the roster.

CW have Gradyn Bowd back at #10 and Ethan Hager on the wing. CW have added Mason Pedersen to the roster as tighthead prop, that’s a good signing for them. Pedersen reached 50 MLR caps in 2023 playing for the Seattle Seawolves and currently sits at 66 MLR caps.

This is always an epic local derby of youth v experience. Usually, from memory, the experience prevails. With the addition of Pedersen in the front row and Bowd returning at #10, we’ll give the edge to CW. Prediction: CW by +5.

* UBC lose 4 points for defaulting Westshore match

UBC  19 v Life University 32 @ 18:30

UBC came up short on the trip falling to the Life University team by -13. We watched part of the match and the larger, athletic Life University players caused problems for the UBC defence, finding line breaks a little too often. Cody Nhanala again looked to be the on form player on the team and looks ready to slot into a national team jersey if given the opportunity.

PREGAME

UBC are travelling to South Carolina to take on Life University, currently ranked second to Cal in the USA college rankings. UBC are schedule to play #1 Cal in February and also #3 Saint Mary’s. It’s the first time this season both of the McMullin brothers are healthy and suiting up together in the UBC roster. The kickoff time on the UBC roster states 3:30pm and that looks like west coast time as the Life University website lists it at 6:30pm. We posted the live stream feed below.
