BC Rugby 2026-27 Season

BCRU Announces Club Schedule Key Dates for 2026-27 Season

The BCRU haven’t posted the full 2026-27 schedule yet as they adapt to the new PlayHQ system which drives their website and schedule system. If you look at their website, at the time of writing, it looks to be in transition. They have announced the key dates, the season starts September 12th. It looks to be a 21 game week schedule, 11 game weeks in the fall, and then 10 game weeks in the spring, plus playoffs in April/May. The winter break goes from December 12th to January 16th. There’s no rep rugby, aka McKechnie Cup, in the schedule for the men but the women will have a 5 game rep season, Blue v Gold, or Island v Mainland. That’s in cooperation with the national women’s program and head coach Kevin Rouet.

2004 BC Premier Championship – From the Archives

Capilano Win 2004 and 2005 Rounsefell Cup: Articles from Quarter-finals to Finals by Ben Buan and Jeremy Dalton

There’s a large collection of BCRN articles going back to 2004 that I haven’t had time to migrate to the new site yet, this is one from the spring of 2004 covering the playoffs for the BC Premier Rounsefell Cup, along with Div 1, 2 and 3. Names like Ben Buan, Jeremy Dalton, Jan-Christian Sorensen show up in the article credits, long time readers will recognize the names and contributions they made. Bayside made the semi-finals in the Premier in 2004, timely as they return to the BC Premier this coming season. The Saratoga Cup is coming up soon, it’s now for interior teams only (Kootenays, Okanagan, Central Interior) but back in 2004 the two 3rd div finalists got an invite to the tournament as well. Some of the try scorers back in 2004 will also cause readers to reflect as many are now involved in rugby as coaches and administrators. Ian Hyde-Lay reffed the Premier final, noted at the time as his last officiating assignment. There’s also the write up of the 2005 final appended at the end.

Battle of the Border 2026

Seattle Rugby Challenges UBCOB Ravens to Battle of the Border on September 12th : $5000 Prize Money

This is an interesting way to start off the season for both Seattle and the UBCOB Ravens. Seattle, who used to play in the BC Premier, made it to the USA national club finals in the spring, just losing to New York in the final match. The Ravens are defending BC Premier champions. Seattle laid down the challenge and there’s even a $5,000 prize award for the winner, we assume that’s in USD. The match takes place in the US but just across the border at the Chuckanut Bay Rugby Club. It’s only 10 km across the border as the crow flies, or should I say as the raven flies. It’s about a 30 minute drive, depending on border conditions, from the nearest Canadian club which would by Bayside.

Rowers and Bayside Announce Entry into 2026-27 BC Premier – Eleven Team League in 2026-27

The Vancouver Rowing Club and the Bayside Sharks have announced their acceptance into the BC Premier league for the 2026-27 season. It looks to be an 11 team league next year, Langley, long reported to be eyeing a jump up to the Premier have apparently withdrawn their application for promotion. With the Pacific Pride not entering a team next year (the status of the program is unknown) the league will consist of the nine teams from last season plus the two new teams. Both clubs, Bayside and Rowers, have a history in the BC Premier and are returning after a rebuilding phase in Division 1.

On a pleasant spring day at Bayside’s excellent two field venue the UBC Old Boys and the University of Victoria met for the second time in their histories to contest the Rounsefell Cup. Both teams had been building strength going into the final, with the classic student vs club team narrative waiting to play out on the big stage.

Ravens Book Trip to White Rock with Defence and Second Half Surge: Ravens 45 – James Bay 5
Report by Peter MacDonald

While more than two months had passed since the last Ravens’ home game, the faithful turned out in good numbers to take in the BC semi-final on a summer like day at Jericho. With memories of recent home semi-final losses to CW and the Lomas floating around in the back of their minds the home crowd were on edge during a first half display of equally good rugby by both sides. The 19-5 half-time scoreline flattered the Ravens.

BC Premier Quarter-Finals Rosters & Results: Capilano Edged by JBAA, UVic Defeat Westshore – Women’s Premier CW Fall to Westshore

The quarter-final results are in and the favourites won most of the matches. UVic upset higher ranked Westshore in men’s Premier but with the Cooper Coats factor we had predicted that upset. The Bays had a very close match with Capilano as the Caps raised their game for their final match of the season. In women’s Premier, Westshore put in a strong home field performance and glided past CW, earning them a trip to Meralomas for the semi-finals. In men’s and women’s Div 1 all the higher ranked home teams claimed victory and move on to the semi-finals. That pattern held true right down to Div 2 and Div 3.
