Canadian Teams Win Three Titles in Florida Tournament: Canadian Attendance Down 33% from 2025

The Tropical 7s wrapped up on the weekend in Tampa, Florida. It’s a popular tournament for Canadian teams although there was a drop off this year by about a third, 33% less Canadian teams made the trip south. There were 48 Canadian teams in 2026 compared to 72 Canadian teams in 2025. In 2025 Canadian teams won six divisions compared to three in 2026.

Vancouver 7s Wrap-Up with Photos

There were a number of talented photographers at the Vancouver 7s. For example, Gone West Photography, posted some photos on Instagram. In this article we feature the work of Robb McCaghren, the610photographer, he is actually 6’10” tall and hence his nickname. He’s a new convert to rugby coming from football and now he’s hooked on rugby, I think he shot his first game in November and his comments were, “I’m really starting to like Rugby, a lot, and would love to keep shooting this sport. I dunno how these folks do it. Even in my prime, I don’t think I could have survived a sport like Rugby. I have an absolute ton of respect for these athletes. Y’all are absolutely amazing.”

Pride Crushed by Visiting Atlantic Privateers 61-29

It was an entertaining game for viewers with lots of scoring but when looked at from a development perspective where this is supposed to be the Rugby Canada academy team preparing players for higher levels, there are lots of questions to ask. Before asking those questions first kudos to the Pacific Pride for finally getting their streaming act together, this being the second match on their channel. Also kudos to the Atlantic Privateers for making the trip and getting their season off to a strong start.

Coral Coast Fiji 7s 2026

Coral Coast Fiji 7s Kicks Off January 15th: One Canadian Team Entered

The Coral Coast 7s may be one of the top international 7s tournaments outside the World Rugby SVNS series. It’s based in Fiji and this year there are top teams from Fiji, NZ, Australia, Japan, GB and USA. There’s one team from BC, the Pacific Warriors, who are mostly a Fijian-Canadian team. They won all the major 7s summer tournaments in BC in 2025, the Bayside 7s, the Bula 7s and the Westshore 7s. They’ll be in tough competition in Fiji however, they’re in a pool (Pool F) with two Fijian teams and an Australian Fijian team. Highlighting Pool A are the Fijian Babas, Pool B NZ Development, Pool C the USA 7s team, Pool D Aussie Selects and Pool E Japan SDS. Mike Friday has a Select 7s team that has an all star roster, that includes Terry Kennedy, Harry McNulty and Jordan Conroy from Ireland, Perry Baker from USA, Luke Treharne from Wales and a host of top Fijian players including Jerry Tuwai. We’ll try to get the Pacific Warriors roster to add to this article.

Canada Classics Finish Tournament with 37-15 Win Over USA

The Canadian Classics wrapped up their tournament with a 37-15 win over USA. They finished the tournament with a 2-1 record, defeating the Lions and USA, and only losing to eventual winner Argentina. The match video and roster is posted below.

RugbyTown 7s Kicks Off Today: Five Canadians on Rosters, Live Stream Link

The RugbyTown 7s tournament kicks off today and the live stream is here. There are at least 5 Canadians playing in the tournament. Ethan Hager is playing for the Ramblin Jesters, a team that has won the tournament in the past. Canada eligible scrum half Cameron Nordli-Kelemeti is also playing for the Jesters. The North American Lions have Luca Milne, Marshall Mather, Rob Frascione, and Jack Shaw playing for the them, and Tyler Leggatt who runs the Upright Rugby Academy is one of the coaches.

Junior PanAm Games Rugby 7s 2025

Canadian U20 Women Claim Bronze at Junior PanAm Rugby 7s

It wasn’t the final most would have expected, that would have been a Canada v USA matchup for Gold and Silver but Brazil were the surprise team of the tournament defeating Canada in the semi-finals and USA in the finals. Brazil won Gold and USA Silver. In the men’s tournament it was Argentina Gold, Uruguay Silver and Chile Bronze. It would have been a good learning experience for a Canadian men’s U20 team.

2025 Canada Summer Games

BC Win Women’s Gold, Ontario Win Men’s Gold, BC Claim Men’s Silver

The BC women’s programs have been on a tear recently, winning the national U19 XVs title and now the Canada Games U18 7s title. They defeated Ontario in the final 22-10 to win Gold, Alberta claimed Bronze. The men came up second best to Ontario for the second time this summer, losing the U19 XVs title and now the Canada Games U20 7s title. BC claimed Silver in both cases. It was a close 17-12 loss with Ontario keeping their nerve and scoring the winning try at the whistle. Quebec claimed Bronze with a 17-15 win over Alberta.

Saratoga Cup 2025

Vernon Jackals Win Men’s XVs, Yeti Rugby Club Claim Women’s 7s at 2025 Saratoga Cup Tournament

The home side Yeti Rugby were dominant in the women’s 7s competition, outscoring opponents 175 to 22, and claimed the 2025 women’s title. The men’s XVs competition was a lot closer with Vernon winning the final by one point over the Terrace team.
