UVic Vikes Win Senior Men’s Title; Thunder Indigenous Win U18 Boys and Girls Titles

It feels like rugby season is almost here as the last 7s tournament of the summer wrapped up. The UVic Vikes won the men’s title defeating Pacific Warriors in the final. The Warriors had won all the mainland titles this year (SFU 7s, Bayside 7s) but weren’t able to add the Westshore 7s to their trophy case. Along the way UVic defeated hosts Westshore. UVic had two teams entered and it was a chance to see some of the emerging talent in their XVs program this season. In the U18 divisions it was Thunder and Thunder winning both boys and girls titles. The program had just wrapped up a week long camp at Shawnigan Lake school and it looks like the program has some emerging talent. This group will form the core of their next NZ tour. Westshore won the U16 girls title.

Howlers Argentina Tour 2026

Howlers Win Final Match of Tour – Get Write Up on ESPN

The Howlers wrapped up their tour this weekend, 1 win and 2 losses, but the scope is much larger than the results on the field. The benefits to the young players and in a year or so, to the Canada U20 program, will be significant. Also the rugby contacts made with Argentine and Buenos Aires rugby administrators and players will pay dividends down the road. Kudos to the Howlers, Karl Fix, the supporters and most importantly the players for taking on this gruelling tour to one of the bastions of amateur rugby. Also a shout out to the man in Argentina who helped put this together, Les Cusworth.

Youth Olympics 2026

Canada U18 Men Entered in Youth Olympics in Senegal in November: Pools Announced

The Youth Olympics first started in 2010, it’s focused on U18 athletes. Rugby 7s was introduced in 2014 in China and continued on in Argentina in 2018. The 2022 Youth Olympics were scrubbed due to COVID disruptions and now Senegal are hosting in 2026. Canada have won medals in 2014 and 2018, both by the women’s U18 team, Silver in China and Bronze in Argentina. This is the first time the Canadian U18 men have been entered in the Youth Olympics Rugby 7s. The Canadian women are not entered, the USA women are the only entry from the Americas region.

Saratoga Cup 2026

Terrace Northmen Win Saratoga Cup; Rocky Mountain Rogues Win Women’s 7s Tournament

The Terrace Northmen defeated Elk Valley 14-5 in the Saratoga Cup final to win the 2026 title.  In the women’s 7s tournament there was an upset as the undefeated Yeti Rugby Club fell to Rocky Mountain Rogues, 15-12, a team they had defeated 31-5 on Day 1. The Day 2 video is linked below.

Ultimate 7s Kicks Off in September in Europe: Features Seven Canadian Players

What is Ultimate 7s? I only noticed recently since a number of Canadian women showed up on the rosters. It’s a series of 7s tournaments taking place in September in Europe. There are six teams and four tournaments in Madrid, Cardiff, Biarritz and London. There are seven Canadian women distributed over five of the teams, Krissy Scurfield, Carmen Izyk, Savannah Bauder, Charity Williams, Eden Kilgour, Breanne Nicholas and Larah Wright. I set Bob my Ai assistant loose on this and it compiled an overview and extracted the team rosters from the social media posts. That’s all listed below along with the main sources used.

Canadian Howlers U18 in Argentina; Rugby Canada Announces U18 Camp Attendees

There are a couple of U18 events overlapping in August. The Canadian Howlers, formerly the Dog River Howlers, are taking an elite team of Canadian U18 players to Argentina for three matches. Their program is linked below. Also Rugby Canada are holding U18 camps for men and women. The Howlers itinerary, roster and full tour program are listed below. Pacific Nations Cup 2026

Canada Men’s XVs Add Two September Tests in Japan Against Fiji and Either USA or Japan

The Pacific Nations Cup will run as an abbreviated tournament in 2026. Only four teams will participate Canada, USA, Fiji, Japan. In 2025 it was part of the World Cup qualifying and included Tonga and Samoa as well. Canada will play Fiji on September 12th then either Japan or USA on September 19th. Based on previous results it will probably be a Canada v USA match on the 19th. The sponsor is a Japanese beer company so it makes sense they’re hosting the tournament and after Fiji won the last two titles, it will likely be a Fiji v Japan final that the hosts are anticipating with the potential of a Japanese upset victory over Fiji. Currently the world rankings of the four countries are Fiji 9th, Japan 12th, USA 14th, Canada 23rd.

Summer 7s Tournaments 2026

Sevens Tournaments This Summer in BC Starting in July

The following are a list of summer 7s tournaments in BC that we’re aware of. SFU’s Highland 7s kicks off July 18th, Bayside 7s is August 8th and Westshore 7s is August 22nd. Usually there’s a 7s tournament at Burnaby on the weekend in between, August 15th, but we haven’t seen that posted yet. If we missed one mention it in the comments section.

Rugby Premier League 7s 2026 – Round 5 Updates

Canadians Shine in HSBC Sponsored 7s League in India

Currently after 5 rounds the teams with the largest Canadian contingents are sitting top of the table. The Chennai Bulls women’s team with four Canadians top the table and Savannah Bauder is the top points scorer with 73 points, 23 points ahead of the next player. Savannah Bauder is 2nd in tries scored with 9, Adia Pye and Eden Kilgour are tied in 3rd place with 5 tries and Lara Wright is close behind with 4 tries. Carmen Izyk is top tackler in the women’s competition with 18 tackles. In the men’s competition the Mumbai Dreamers top the table and have two Canadian players, Demetri Patterson was selected player of the match in Round 5 as he scored 2 tries in Mumbai’s win.

Rugby Premier League 7s 2026

Nine Canadian 7s Players in India for Rugby Premier League 7s June 16 to 28

Nine Canadian players in India will kick off their thirteen day 7s tournament on Tuesday, June 16th, in Hyderabad, a city of about 10 million in the state of Telangana. The weather forecast for Tuesday afternoon is a warm 34° C. The men will play 10 matches in that time period, plus playoffs, the women will play 6 matches plus playoffs. Last year it was just a men’s tournament but they’ve added four women’s teams to the existing six men’s teams. There are five Canadian women participating and four men according to our latest information. Of particular interest will be the Chennai Bulls woman’s team which has four well known Canadian players, Adia Pye, Savannah Bauder, Carmen Izyk, Larah Wright.
