CanWest Defeats American Raptors 40-17 – CanWest Island Edges CanWest Mainland 14-12 – Match Photos and Video Link

The American Raptors started strong going up 12-0. The Island had their share of ball and line breaks but a lack of precision with dropped passes and balls stripped in contact denied them any points. It was a defensive effort, by Gabe Casey, that led to their first try when he intercepted an ambitious wide pass by the Raptors inside their 22. It was converted 12-7 Raptors.

Upright Rugby Successful Tour to Tropical 7s in Florida: U12 Co-Ed Team Wins Cup Final

I just wanted to let you know that I am on my way home from a highly successful trip down to Tampa, Florida where we had eight teams competing in the 2022 Tropical 7s. I had nicknamed this tour the “Reboot to Rugby” tour and it was a great opportunity for us to kick off to return to rugby, and prepare for the upcoming spring and summer season here in Canada.

You may not be able to watch the Canadian national team’s World Cup qualifying match this weekend against Chile on TSN, but you can watch a new rugby 7s league launch in Memphis on October 9th. Such is the convoluted nature of sports broadcasting in Canada. A shout out to CBC Sports for covering the Vancouver and Edmonton 7s the last two weekends.

Teams Announced for Vancouver and Edmonton 7s Events: Links to Ticket Sales

It’s not quite the full lineup for the World Seven Series in this abbreviated COVID 2021 version. The two Canadian tournaments, Vancouver Sept 18-19 and Edmonton Sept 25-26, will be missing some of the top teams, there’s no Fiji, New Zealand, Australia or Argentina. So the only Olympic medalist attending is France on the women’s side. Another twist is that Great Britain will enter as a team, a first for the series.
