The BC Premier enters Week 3 after the Thanksgiving break, I’m in Guatemala at the Gran Jaguar 7s tournament with the Howlers. A couple of BC Premier props are here as well playing for the Howlers, Denver Fatt and Simeon John. Late notice that the Caps v Ravens game was cancelled due to field closures, also we’ve been advised the Lomas v Burnaby match was cancelled/postponed for the same reason.

The Ravens maintain their hold of top spot in the table with CW and UBC a point behind. Even though Week 1 matches were all close with an average +3 differential over the 4 matches, this week there were some blowouts with only the Vikes v Westshore game decided by 1 point. The average score differential this week was +24
On a cool, late September day the Ravens opened their season facing a fit, well drilled UVic team that was in good form having already had three tough Coastal Cup games. So, it was no surprise to see UVic seize the advantage early with a forward drive to score under the posts at 10 minutes which rewarded their control of the game to that point. Luckily for the home side though, minutes later, a UVic back hung a long miss pass which Ravens winger David Thompson stretched high to snag and quickly run in from short range 7-5 UVic.
The BC Premier kicked off this weekend with four games, the Bays had a bye and the Pride were playing a Coastal Cup match. The theme of the season seems to be parity early on with an average of a 3 point difference over 4 matches in the BC Premier.
The 2024-25 BC rugby season kicks off Saturday September 7th in Coastal Cup, Dunbar Keg, CanWest competitions; September 21st in Men’s Div 1, 2 and 3; September 28th in Men’s and Women’s Premier, Women’s Div 1 and Div 2.
The Ravens narrowly fell to Mexico National XV in a hotly contested match on a scorching Vallarta day. The squad came together at Vancouver International on Thursday May 17 and boarded the short direct flight to Puerto Vallarta. Full of excitement and with five players from other BC clubs joining the tour, the introductions were out of the way and it was full steam ahead.
A big crowd and an excellent pitch at Burnaby Lake were the setting for the last championship game of a long day, the men’s premier final. The Ravens came out strongly, dominating the first 10 minutes, and staking themselves to a 10-0 lead. The try was a product of continuous possession and pressure with forwards, Crowell, Locke, Kaijaks and Konrad carrying and making ground. Lock Donald Carson then moved the ball towards the posts where from a ruck Joe Locke’s strong angled run off the ball put him through the would-be tacklers for the try under the posts.
It was the final weekend of club rugby in coastal BC with the BC Premier wrapping up as well as seven other divisions. The finals event is hosted at the Burnaby Rugby Club. In Premier it was the top two teams throughout the season, Meraloma and UBCOB Ravens, meeting in the final. The Lomas won the first matchup 34-15 in October, the Ravens won the return match 36-10 in February, both winning at home. The Ravens however claimed the title with a 25-17 win in the final.
