Burnaby Lake 22 v UBCOB Ravens 20 @ 14:30
Referee: Chris Assmus AR1: Trevor Honey AR2: Tere Blake
Venue: Burnaby Lake Rugby Club

A big upset for Burnaby taking down the defending champs at home. Burnaby go from #5 to #4 in the standings, Ravens fall to #3. Next week Burnaby host Westshore and the Ravens have a bye.

PREGAME

#5 Burnaby hosting #2 Ravens. Both teams coming off decisive wins last weekend.

Burnaby only have a couple of changes to the forwards Joel Abdel Barr replaces James Kelly at hooker and Sam Tsoi replaces Josh Halladay in the second row. In the backs Lynden Duggan replaces Stu Jamieson on the wing.

The Ravens with a few changes Riku Konrad and Jake Tierney missing, Jake Ikeda returns in the forwards. Jack Carson starts at fullback.

The Ravens with 5 straight wins after two opening losses, Burnaby coming off two consecutive wins. Should be a good match but Ravens get the nod. Prediction: Ravens by +7.

Castaway Wanderers 38 v Meraloma 19 @ 14:30
Referee: Derek Horton AR1: Sam Klein-Laufer AR2: Kenneth Yee
Venue: Windsor Park

CW get their first win of the season and do it in style with a bonus point win. They still remain in 9th but are starting a move in the right direction. The Lomas looked like they were turning the corner after a win last week after four consecutive defeats, but it wasn’t to be. They remain in 7th place. Next week CW visit Capilano and the Lomas get a Friday night under the lights at UBC’s Thunderbird Stadium, kick off at 8:30pm.

PREGAME

#9 CW hosting #7 Meraloma. CW still looking for their first win and the Lomas looking like a team returning to form with a emphatic win over the Bays after 4 consecutive losses.

The Lomas have an unchanged forward pack and two changes in the backs with Luc Thompson getting the start at scrum-half and Malachi King coming into the roster at outside centre.

CW with a couple of changes in the forwards with Fred Regan returning to loosehead prop, moving Alex McCallum to hooker. Nat Dring comes off the bench to replace the absent Ayo Ogunlabe. In the backs Ethan Hager returns and takes the outside centre spot. Angus Boyd-Porter is missing so Zech Pilgrim moves from scrum-half to fullback and Chris Gamage moves from wing to scrum-half.

We’ll see if the Lomas new found form continues and they can get back to back wins for the first time this season. CW will be eager to notch their first win of the season at home. The stats say Lomas go in as favourites. Prediction: Lomas by +5.

University Of Victoria 13 v Westshore 21 @ 14:30
Referee: Cole Pedrick AR1: David Hale AR2: Al Humphries
Venue: U Of Victoria- Wallace Field

Westshore climb to 2nd place with the win and the Ravens loss. The Vikes remain in 8th place. Next week Westshore travel to Burnaby and the Vikes host James Bay in a Friday night at Centennial Stadium, kick off at 7pm.

PREGAME

#8 Vikes hosting #3 Westshore. Westshore coming off a tough win against Capilano last week, the Vikes returning from the university championships where they placed 4th.

Westshore have Foster Dewitt starting this week at hooker, that’s the only change in the forwards. In the backs Thomas Isherwood is in Trinidad with the national 7s team, Rhys James takes the outside centre role. Drew Belbin and Alex Mentiply on the wings, Mark Balaski returning from injury is in the reserves.

UVic have Hunter Hannaford at #10, he seems to be a new addition to the Vikes, showing up in our records for the first time November 1st. He also was one of the few Vikes to be selected to the university all-star teams. A google search indicates he may be an Aussie who played for West Harbour Rugby Club and played some rep rugby. The Vikes top 2 fly-halves Cooper Coats and Michael Oughtred are not in the roster. Coats in Portugal with Canada XVs and Oughtred may be on the injured list.

Based on current form Westshore go in as favourites but the Vikes always dangerous with their expansive game. Prediction: Westshore by +5.

Men’s Exhibition

Pacific Pride 33 v Chicago Hounds Development 57 @ 15:00
Referee: Julianne Zussman AR1: Leighton Burridge AR2: Martin Thornton
Venue: Starlight Stadium

It looks like it was a Barbarians style free-for-all with little defence as the MLR Hounds development squad put a half century on the Pride while the Pride scored 33 points of their own.

PREGAME

Not much known about the Chicago Hounds development team, officially referred to as “autumn performance squad” on their social media. Their last match was against a Midwest Thunderbirds team in Chicago, a game they won 36-22. So this will be an interesting test for the Pacific Pride.

Women’s Premier

We’ll double back on the women’s Premier when we get the rosters in. The BCRU schedule shows Westshore @ Ravens but we see no sign that match is going ahead as the Ravens haven’t officially fielded a team yet this season.

Castaway Wanderers 24 v Burnaby Lake 21 @ 12:45
Referee: Dan Cvitanovich AR1: Chris Horsley AR2: Kenneth Yee
Venue: Windsor Park

CW with the narrow win at home hold on to 3rd place while Burnaby fall to 5th behind the Lomas. Next week Burnaby host #2 Westshore while CW have a bye.

PREGAME

#3 hosting #4. Burnaby coming off a bye week but they lost to the Lomas before that. CW just came off an emphatic win over Lomas. Burnaby travelling with 4 TBD on roster may indicate a short roster on the road, never a good sign. CW with a fairly consistent roster with some rotation from the bench. Go with the home team on this. Prediction: CW by +5.
