Canada Announce Women’s 7s Team for Singapore and Perth Tournaments
Coach Jocelyn Barrieau has selected 14 players to travel to Singapore and Perth for the two back to back tournaments starting at the end of this month. The surprise is seeing some of the PWR players returning to the squad, Olivia Apps, Fancy Bermudez, Sabrina Poulin, Alysha Corrigan, Gabrielle Senft. Also former Exeter player Taylor Perry is back on the 7s squad. Missing from the first two tournaments are Charity Williams (injured), Pam Buisa and Asia-Hogan Rochester (PWR), Carmen Izyk, Adia Pye, Monique Coffey, Ivy Poetker. NOTE: The original Rugby Canada media release had Rachel Smith in the roster, the updated media release has Larah Wright in the roster instead.
It’s definitely a more experienced squad and they should improve on their two 6th place finishes. Probably the most troubling are the three consecutive losses to Japan, Japan aren’t in their pool this time but they may meet in the playoff rounds.

Updated media release from Rugby Canada
Head Coach of Canada’s Women’s Sevens Team, Jocelyn Barrieau, has selected Canada’s 14-player travelling squad for the next two stops of the 2026 HSBC SVNS Series in Singapore beginning January 31 and Perth, Australia, starting February 7.
The final roster of 13 players who will represent Canada in Singapore will be confirmed prior to the tournament’s opening match on Friday, January 30 at 6:20 p.m. PT / 9:20 p.m. ET, when Canada faces France.
Singapore and Perth are the final two stops before the 2026 HSBC SVNS Series returns to BC Place Stadium in Vancouver on March 7–8. Canadian rugby fans will have the opportunity to watch both Canada’s Men’s and Women’s Sevens Teams compete on home soil. Tickets are available now at vansevens.com.
“We are really excited to welcome some familiar players back to the team,” said Head Coach Jocelyn Barrieau. “Young players are still being selected and pushing for spots on the roster but having some veterans back playing for a team and with teammates they care so much about has everyone very excited heading into Singapore and Perth.”
Joining Canada from the PWR (Professional Women’s Rugby) in England for the next two series stops are Fancy Bermudez, Olivia Apps, Alysha Corrigan, and Gabrielle Senft, all of whom represented Canada at the 2025 Women’s Rugby World Cup in England last fall. Taylor Perry and Shoshanah Seumanutafa, who were also part of Canada’s World Cup squad and played in the final against England, return to the sevens pitch after both had stints on the series last year. Sabrina Poulin, currently playing for the Exeter Chiefs in the PWR and with previous experience in both 15s and 7s for Canada has also been selected.
“The leadership of Olivia Apps and Alysha Corrigan should never be underestimated,” said Barrieau. “The fancy footwork of Fancy Bermudez and everything else she brings as a core member of the squad, along with Taylor Perry, who was part of the Olympic team in Paris and is coming off a very successful Rugby World Cup campaign, adds tremendous value. We’re really excited to have them back, along with the other World Cup players, including Gabby and Shoshanah.”
After competing for Canada in the first two tournaments of the season in Dubai and Cape Town, Asia Hogan-Rochester (Sale Sharks) and Pamphinette Buisa (Bristol Bears) both signed with PWR clubs and will not be available for selection for Singapore and Perth.
Canada began their 2025-26 HSBC SVNS Series campaign with back-to-back sixth place finishes in Dubai and Cape Town last month.
“The focus going into these next two tournaments is to build on each performance and improve our game management,” Barrieau said. “There were a few key moments at important times where we lacked a bit of composure in Dubai and Cape Town so we know if we can improve in those moments we will come up with better results.”

Smith made her 15s debut for Canada last year and has since earned fourcaps, including an appearance against Fiji in Canada’s opening match of the 2025 Rugby World Cup.
