From CanWest 7s to Six Nations Touching Down on U18 Tours, Rugby Camps, Ravens Women, Bayside Hosting, European Championship Round of 16, SVNS Series, Atlantic Privateers

We took a look around social media today to pick up rugby news of interest to the BC Rugby community. We found posts about the Ravens women’s program, the CanWest 7s series, U18 tours by Abbotsford and Thunder Rugby, Spring Break Camp by Vikes, Bayside Saturday and Sunday hosting, European Champions Cup Round of 16 and the Six Nations Schedule, SVNS Series Singapore, SVNS Vancouver Tickets, Atlantic Privateers roster vs Pacific Pride.

UBCOB Ravens Women’s Team

After defaulting their fall schedule it looks like the Ravens women will get on track on Saturday, on Instagram they announced, “We are excited to announce that our first game back is this Saturday!”. We look forward to seeing their first roster announcement.

CanWest 7s

A reminder thanks to the TWU team that the CanWest women’s 7s series kicks off this weekend.

The season consists of three tournaments.

Tournament #1: Hosted by Alberta (Jan. 24-25)
Tournament #2: Hosted by Victoria (Feb. 7-8)
Tournament #3: Hosted by UBC (March 6-7)

Bayside Match Day and NFL Watch Party

We came across this on the Bayside social media accounts, a big day of games on Saturday, including the men’s Premier match which has been moved from UBC to Bayside. Also 2 university games as UBC Okanagan and UVic play Western Washington University and the home team Sharks take on UBC in Division One.

It’s a busy time at the new Bayside clubhouse with a Sunday NFL watch party. Bar open and bring snacks.

UVic Women’s Rugby Camp for 13-18 Age Group

The UVic women’s program are putting on a spring break rugby camp for girls 13-18 although the registration form mentions 11-18 and 12-18, so contact them for specifics.

Women’s HSBC SVNS Series

This is still a week away starting January 31st but a reminder the Canadian women are in action in Singapore.

Vancouver 7s

A reminder of ticket sales for the Vancouver 7s at vansevens.com – the tournament takes place March 7-8.

Thunder Rugby Raffle for Portugal Trip

The Thunder Indigenous rugby program are travelling to a XVs tournament in Portugal from March 23-30. They are entering two U18 teams, boys and girls, and this is their final fundraising raffle, draw is on Feb 16th. Contact John Lyall at johnlyall4@gmail.com to purchase tickets.

Abbotsford Fundraiser for U18 Tour

Abbotsford are taking a boys U18 team on tour to Spain and the UK and they’re holding a burger and beer fundraiser on February 6th.

Atlantic Privateers Tour to Victoria

The Atlantic Privateers announced their extended squad to play the Pacific Pride on February 14th.

European Champions Cup

The Round of 16 in the European Champions Cup has been decided. Castres with Canadian Tyler Ardron will face Northampton. The Round of 16 starts April 3rd.

Six Nations

Starting in February is the Six Nations competition, it kicks off with a Thursday France v Ireland match on February 5th. Tyler Duguid, the Canadian capped for France on their NZ tour, wasn’t named in the 42 player list.
