Fraser Valley East Claims U16 Girls Title; BC Gold U18 Women Win Gold
It was the women carrying the banner for BC at the VSI with Fraser Valley East winning Gold in U16 and Fraser Valley West winning Bronze, well done to the Valley. In U18 women it was BC Gold making it to the final and defeating Ontario in the final at BC Place. The men fell short with the BC U18 men getting blanked in the medals, Vancouver Island Tide claimed Silver in U16, kudos to them. It’s good to recognize the successful coaches as well, BC Gold U18 women’s coach is Darcy Patterson assisted by Shalaya Valenzuela. The Fraser Valley East U16 girls’ coaches are Slade Rozell, Josh Olafsen, Lindsay Nicholson, all the players were from Abbotsford. The Fraser Valley West U16 girls’ coaches were Katherine Siemens and Kelly Shields, the players were from Langley and United. The U16 boys’ Tide coach was Eric Slade, the players were from CW and JBAA. The tournament scores are on the BCRU events page.

Vancouver 7s Invitational Semi-Finals Set: BC Guaranteed a Spot in Women’s U18 Final at BC Place on Saturday
Day 1 has wrapped up at the VSI and for BC the highlight is that at least one BC team will be in the U18 finals at BC Place, in the U18 women. The U18 women semi-finals will see BC Blue vs BC Gold and Ontario White vs Ontario Blue so we’re guaranteed a BC vs Ontario final at BC Place. The U18 men is not so certain, we may see a USA vs Ontario final at BC Place, the semis are BC Gold vs Ontario Blue and EIRA (USA) vs Ontario White. Ontario White are the only undefeated team and Ontario Blue tied EIRA in pool play. BC Gold lost to Ontario White 26-12 in pool play. BC Gold will have to up their game on Day 2 to ensure a BC team in the men’s U18 final.
In U16 play, there will be an Island team in the boys’ final with Island Tide vs Island Tsunami in one semi and Ontario Blue vs Ontario White in the other semi. In the girls’ semis it’s the Fraser Valley repping with Fraser Valley East vs Ontario White and Fraser Valley West vs Ontario Blue in the other semi.

Vancouver Sevens Invitational U18 Rosters for BC Blue, BC Gold, Alberta Wolfpack, Alberta Development, Ontario Blue, Ontario White
The Vancouver Sevens Invitational for U18 and U16 teams will take place from March 5th to 7th at UBC’s Gerald McGavin Centre. The finals for the U18 Boys and Girls will take place on Saturday at BC Place, 1:53pm for the boys and 5:41pm for the girls.
At the U18 level BC will be entering four teams in total, two U18 boys and two U18 girls. Ontario and Alberta are also entering two teams each in the U18 boys and girls divisions. We have the rosters for all 12 teams below and we’ll add the 4 remaining rosters when they become available.
The U18 tournament will have 8 teams in each division, in the boys U18 division it will be BC Blue, BC Gold, Alberta, Alberta Development, Ontario Blue, Ontario White, Yukon, EIRA (USA). In the girls U18 division it will be BC Blue, BC Gold, Alberta, Alberta Development, Ontario Blue, Ontario White, Yukon, PNW Loggers (USA)
