As part of the updated talent identification and development process for Rugby Canada’s Women’s 15s Team announced earlier this year, Head Coach Kévin Rouet has invited 65 players to two regional camps, one hosted in Ottawa at Twin Elm Rugby Park and the other in Langford at the Al Charron Rugby Canada National Training Centre.

These regional camps are designed to help identify and develop players from across Canada who are not currently competing in Professional Women’s Rugby (PWR), France, or other leagues around the world.

“It’s going to be a good opportunity to have two full days with players based in Canada,” said Rouet. “We are going to see the top players from the east and the top from the west from the regional competitions. I am excited to see the next generation of players.”

Players from Eastern Canada will gather in Ottawa for a two-day camp from May 9–10, while players based in Western Canada will meet in Langford for a two-day camp on May 16–17. All players attending the east camp have experience competing in the Quebec Ontario Rugby Championship (QORC) and most players selected to attend the camp were evaluated on their performance this past spring.

Rugby Canada is working to increase and support senior pathway opportunities for players from all provinces including from the Atlantic region, Manitoba and Saskatchewan.

Rouet added: “The idea is to create a long list after these camps to prepare us for our next tour in September. It also gives the players involved the opportunity to gain experience and develop outside of a regular tour with the national team.”
