BC Premier Week 4 Predictions and Rosters: Westshore @ Bayside, Capilano @ JBAA, Ravens @ CW, Burnaby @ Meraloma, UVic @ Rowers
Week 4 has arrived before the Thanksgiving break on October 10th. There are three undefeated sides and the JBAA v Capilano match will be one of the highlights this week. Westshore visit Bayside, Ravens visit the Island to take on CW, Burnaby travel to the Lomas and the Rowers host UVic.
Bayside Sharks v Westshore @ South Surrey Athletic Park @ 2:30
Ref: Shanda Assmus, AR1: Jen Bourlier
Bayside at 1-2 and 6 points, Westshore at 1-1 and 5 points. Westshore coming off a bye week, Bayside losing to Caps last week.
Bayside have the addition of Izzak Kelly this week returning from national team duty. Stuart Gormley gets the start at scrum half, Kimi Vunituraga comes off the bench to start in the centres.
Westshore have three national team players returning, Matt Oworu at #8, Jesse Kilgour at scrum half and Emerson Prior as reserve prop. Guy Lansdown an addition from NZ starts at centre, moving Ryhs James to fullback.
Should be a good match, Bayside with home field advantage but Westshore adding four top players after their loss to Capilano. Prediction: Westshore by +5.

Meraloma v Burnaby Lake @ Connaught Park @ 2:30
Ref: Sam Farber, AR1: Thomas Cooper, AR2: Sam Klein-laufer
Burnaby at 1-2 and 7 points, the Lomas at 1-2 with 6 points. Both teams coming off their first win Burnaby over UVic and Meraloma over Rowers.
The danger player for Burnaby is Napolioni Bolaca and they’ve moved him from fullback to #10 for this match. Burnaby have both national team players in the roster this week, former national team centre Guiseppe du Toit starts and current national team 7s player Ethan Turner is in the reserves. They’re missing their #8 Taitusi Vikilani this week so there’s some rotation in the loose forwards.
The Lomas have a stable roster, Mark Rickard rotates into the starting hooker role and Carlos Thompson into the starting wing slot. Evan Gerbrecht on the wing is the only new player in the starting XV.
Burnaby with a few talented Fijians in the roster plus two national level backs, a strong pack, should prevail even though on the road. Prediction: Burnaby by +7.

James Bay Athletic Association v Capilano @ MacDonald Park @ 2:30
Ref: Julianne Zussman, AR1: Phil Webster, AR2: Madeline Berry
Two undefeated teams, this should be the match of the week. Caps at 3-0 and 15 points, JBAA at 2-0 and 10 points.
The Bays are brimming with national level talent, Austin Creighton starts at hooker, Callum Botchar second row, Kainoa Lloyd and Noah Flesch in the centres, D’Shawn Bowen on the wing and Tyler Matchem the reserve prop. James Thiel moves from centre to fullback.
The Caps have a stable roster, no new players in the starting XV just some rotation from the bench. Lucas Couilloud rotates into the starting hooker position, Teancum Tuiali blindside flanker with Tyler Wong not listed, and Will Dormaar switching with veteran Chris Robinson at scrum half.
The Bays at home with that roster have to be favourites. Prediction: Bays by +6.

Castaway Wanderers v Ravens @ Windsor Park @ 2:30
Ref: Cole Pedrick, AR1: Malcolm Klaver, AR2: Mckenzie Eckart
The Ravens the other undefeated team, 2-0 at 10 points. CW at 1-1 and 5 points, defeating Rowers in Week 1 but getting clobbered by the Bays in Week 3.
The Ravens missing a few key players, Lucas Rumball and Joe Locke missing from the forwards, but they’ve added Lockie Kratz to the backs. The centre pairing of Lockie Kratz and Takoda McMullin could slot right into the national team. With Rumball and Locke missing they’ve rotated Brian Ndirangu into #8 and brought Baden Pengelly off the bench.
CW have a few new players in the starting XV from last week, Alexander McCallum starts at tighthead prop, George Vorster at openside flanker and Henry Williamson on the wing. Ethan Hager is not listed this week.
Even with the Ravens missing two influential loose forwards, they should get the job done with the talent they have. Prediction: Ravens by +8.

Vancouver Rowing Club v UVIC @ Brockton Oval @ 2:30
Ref: Benjamin Lambrick, AR1: Rachel Morrison, AR2: Miriam Sobrino
The Rowers at 0-3 and the Vikes at 0-2 the only two teams without a win this season, one will come out of the weekend with a notch in the win column.
UVic still missing their big guns, in particular Cooper Coats, they may be saving him for the return match against UBC on October 24th. Josh McIndoe also missing this week. The forward pack looks stable the only change a rotation from the bench at #8, Robert Reid getting the start. Alex Gamage and Dylan Cleaver missing from the backline and Grady Watt looks to get his first cap with the Vikes at outside centre.
The Rowers with some new names from last week in the starting XV, Riley Martin at second row, Ben Caulfield at openside flanker, Thomas Parry at #8, Luis Salvado at scrum half.
A difficult one to predict, Rowers with some new names, Vikes missing some key players. Vikes should have the fitness advantage for the last quarter. Prediction: Vikes by +2.

Women’s Premier
It’s Week 2 in the women’s Premier, we’ve done the predictions on the one game out of three where both teams have rosters listed. The Lomas don’t have a roster posted as of Friday evening and the Ravens are only travelling with 11 players and the game has been marked by CW as a “friendly” now. Lastest update, we understand Thunderbirds have defaulted their match to Westshore, again we’ll get some clarification from BCRU on Monday on how that is handled in the standings.
Vancouver Thunderbirds v Westshore @ Gerald McGavin Centre @ 12:45
Westshore and Thunderbirds both 1-0 after Week 1 with 5 points. Westshore have some strike power back in Eden Kilgour, Vanessa Chiapetta, Maya Addai plus the addition of kiwi Sammy Spence. They’re travelling light however as they have a women’s Div 2 team travelling to Richmond. The Thunderbirds are defending champions but their #1 team, UBC, are in Alberta for a couple of weekend matches. It’s still a good side but missing some of the elite players they usually have access to, Piper Logan doesn’t show up in the roster this week. It’s never good to bet against, is 4 it or 5 times repeat champions, but Westshore might have the strike power this weekend. Prediction: Westshore by +2.

Congrats to Bayside and Earl Marriot,
Great to see Izzak come back to play for his community and give back.
Izzak, this reflects very well on your character, more than you may realize now, but in the future your community will have nothing but memories and respect for you, your mom must be very proud!
Other Earl Marriot grads should follow your lead, when their rugby playing days are over so is their fame, it is fleeting and life goes on after rugby.
Develop and learn to be a man of character for life and you will be respected for the rest of your life.
Bayside has a fraternal relationship with many clubs and University and has sent more players to UBC and represented Canada in recent year than most. Bayside and Earl Marriott claim your fraternal son and daughter of your club, otherwise other clubs will.
Good on the Bayside club and good on Izzak. Fame and winning is short live but to be respected by your family, community and club, it is for life.
Many Legends of clubs who have gone to UBC and represented Canada have come back to play for their clubs, which is why they are legends for life. Young players should learn this lesson. All Values, the late great Buzz Moore instilled in Players when he was was with UBC Rugby.
it’s not that deep
