BC Rugby Season Starts September 7th – Schedules for Coastal Cup, BC Premier, Div 1, Div 2, Div 3, Dunbar Keg, CanWest XVs
The 2024-25 BC rugby season kicks off Saturday September 7th in Coastal Cup, Dunbar Keg, CanWest competitions; September 21st in Men’s Div 1, 2 and 3; September 28th in Men’s and Women’s Premier, Women’s Div 1 and Div 2.
Coastal Cup
This is the men’s competition between the BC Universities and the Rugby Canada Academy team, Pacific Pride. The first weekend of action is September 7th with Trinity Western hosting UBC and UVic hosting the Pride. All teams except TWU also play in the BC Premier, the Coastal Cup only competes in the fall as it prepares the 3 university teams for the Canadian University Rugby Championship, this year being held November 13-17 at the University of Ottawa.
Dunbar Keg
This is the men’s U20 competition between regions, the competition is held during the fall. The first weekend of action is September 7th with Fraser Valley hosting Okanagan and Vancouver hosting Vancouver Island. It appears that North Island will not enter a separate team this year.
CanWest XVs
This is not strictly a BC competition but the women’s western University competition to compete for the nationals. The two BC universities involved are UBC and UVic, also competing are the universities of Alberta, Calgary, Lethbridge. The BC teams kick off September 7th with UVic hosting UBC.
BC Premier Men
This competition kicks off September 28th. There are 10 teams in the league, in the first weekend Burnaby will host Westshore, CW host Meraloma, James Bay host Pacific Pride, Ravens host UVic and UBC host Capilano.
BC Premier Women
The women’s Premier also kicks off September 28, it’s an improvement from last year when the women’s Premier only operated in the spring. There are 7 teams in the league, as last year UBC will have two teams in the competition. In the first weekend Seattle will host Westshore, UBC 2 will host CW, Burnaby and Capilano have a bye in week 1. It appears the UBC 1 team only enters the competition in the spring after the Canadian University season is complete.
BC Men Div 1
The men’s Div 1 kicks off September 21st, this year the Premier Reserve and Div 1 teams are in one competition, as it was 2 years ago. There are 18 teams in the competition, 9 Premier Reserve sides (excluding Pacific Pride) and 9 Div 1 teams. In Week 1 Abbotsford hosts Capilano, Squamish host Ravens, Comox host James Bay, Cowichan host UVic, Port Alberni host Westshore. Teams with a week 1 bye include Burnaby, Langley, Nanaimo, CW, Rowers, UBC, Bayside, Meraloma.
BC Women Div 1
The women’s Div 1 kicks off September 28th with 8 teams. In week 1 Bayside hosts CW, United host Comox, teams with a bye in week 1 include James Bay, Kamloops, Meraloma, Abbotsford.
BC Men Div 2
The men’s Div 2 kicks off September 21st with 12 teams. In week 1 Kamloops hosts Kelowna and Ridge Meadows hosts United, teams with a bye in week 1 include Chilliwack, Surrey, Brit Lions, Meraloma, Kats, Scribes, Simon Fraser and Richmond.
BC Women Div 2
The women’s Div 2 starts September 28th with 15 teams. In week 1 Capilano hosts Abbotsford, James Bay host Nanaimo, Kelowna host Langley, Scribes host Rowers, Simon Fraser host Richmond, UBC host CW, teams with a bye on week 1 include Westshore, Cowichan, Chilliwack.
BC Men Div 3
The men’s Div 3 starts September 21st with 8 teams. In week 1 Abbotsford hosts Capilano, Burnaby hosts Rowers, Meraloma hosts Squamish, teams with a week 1 bye include Langley and Bayside.
