Thanksgiving Weekend: UVic vs TWU Coastal Cup Match on Saturday @ UVic
It’s Thanksgiving weekend and hence no BC Premier league action taking place. The only Premier team in action is UVic taking on TWU at Wallace Field at 2:30pm in the three university Coastal Cup competition. Currently UBC are 3-0, UVic 1-1 and TWU 0-3. In terms of qualification for the University Championship hosted in November by TWU this match won’t have a bearing, TWU as host get a berth automatically. The winner of the UVic vs UBC home and away series determines BC’s other berth. Currently UBC lead that head to head by +10. The latest men’s University rankings have Guelph #1, UBC #2, UVic #3. It indicates how broken the current qualification system is when either the #2 or #3 ranked team will miss the 8 team national championship.
As far as today’s match UVic should have the upper hand but TWU are improving each game since their opening 66-0 loss to UBC. UVic are missing Cooper Coats, Michael Oughtred, Muiredach Casey, Josh McIndoe. They do have Alex Gamage back in the roster.
TWU aren’t in the BC Premier so we haven’t been following their rosters but there are some familiar names Tim Zimmer, son of MP Bob Zimmer from the Prince George area. Dallin Westerlund who was on the Canadian Howlers tour and played for BC U19 this summer.
The match is live streamed by UVic, link below.
