Coastal Cup Match UBC Defeat TWU 66-12: Lineups Posted
UPDATE: UBC defeated TWU 66-12 to go 2-2 on the season. Next weekend TWU host the Pride and UBC visit UVic.
It’s a sparse serving of rugby matches in BC on Thanksgiving weekend. There’s an old boys team from Edmonton touring, playing Cowichan on Saturday and the Ebb Tide in Victoria on Sunday and travelling over the Vancouver to play the Twilighters on Monday. Details at the BCRU fixtures page.
There is one Coastal Cup match on Saturday, UBC @ TWU. That match will be live streamed on therugbynetwork.com
UBC are returning from their trip to France at the World University Rugby Invitation tournament. They played some top teams there and were competitive in the matches. In their last outing in the Coastal Cup they put out their non-travelling players and were trounced by the Pacific Pride 80-19. TWU lost their last Coastal Cup match 29-13 to UVic. TWU are winless at 0-3 in the Coastal Cup, UBC are 1-2 in the competition. UBC are ranked #1 in the Canadian University Men’s Rugby Championship poll, TWU are ranked 6th.
UBC have their top players back for this match, only Callum Arneson retains his starting spot from the Pride match. The McMullin brothers are back in the centres, the halfbacks are Jacob Bourne and James Biss. One interesting positional note, Alastair Marshall who usually plays wing for UBC and played for Canada U20 in that position, is starting at blindside flanker.
TWU have shifted around their roster since their last match, the front row is rotated from the previous match reserves. Josh Halladay and Matthew Willemse return to the roster.
