BC Premier Week 2 Predictions & Rosters: Rowers @ Bayside, Caps @ Westshore, Burnaby @ UBC, Lomas @ Ravens
Week 2 kicks off with the defending champions UBCOB Ravens getting their first match of the season. The two Division One sides promoted this season, Bayside and Rowers, square off against each other. Can UBC keep focused on the BC Premier with the university championships on the horizon. Will defence be the difference this week as Capilano visit Westshore.
Bayside Sharks v Vancouver Rowing Club @ South Surrey Athletic Park @ 2:30pm

Bayside and Rowers both teams promoted from Div 1 last year, both with losses in Week 1, one of the teams will get their first win of the Premier season.
Bayside with a starting roster similar to last week. On the bench Kimi Vunituraga coming over from Burnaby this season, another high level Fijian, Anasa Qaranivalu, on the bench as well.
Rowers with only a few changes to their starting roster, former Thunderbird Relmu Wilson-Valdes isn’t in the initial roster at #8, replaced by Thomas Perry. Dax Millington comes into the roster at outside centre.
It’s a toss up, Bayside lost to the Bays by 17, Rowers lost to CW by 12 last week. Last season the Bays were a stronger side than CW. Bayside have added a couple of key players to their reserves, plus home field advantage. Prediction: Bayside by +2.

Burnaby with a narrow -2 loss last week at Westshore, UBC held on to defeat UVic by +10.
Burnaby have added Guiseppe du Toit to the starting XV this week, he starts at inside centre moving David Dinbandhu to openside flanker. Napolioni Bolaca gets the start at fullback. A couple of Fijian 7s players added to the reserves, Suli Volivoli and Iowanne Raturaciri, will keep the UBC defenders busy in the second half.
UBC with a few TBD in the roster at the time of writing [updated], according to the PlayHQ system, UBC haven’t published their roster on social media yet. With the university championships the priority for them and the return match with UVic on their mind, how much will it affect their performance? A few rotations from the bench last week, Sandon Gupta gets the start at second row, William Barrett in the centres, Ethan Samuels at loosehead prop.
Last week against UVic, UBC were strong out of the blocks but faded in the second half, Burnaby have two Fijian flyers coming off the bench, it should be interesting. Based on last season results, UBC go in as favourites but I wouldn’t be surprised to see an upset here. Prediction: UBC by +3.

Westshore squeezed out a +2 win over Burnaby last week while the Caps put the highest numbers up in Week 1 scoring 57 points.
Capilano showed some scoring punch to start the season. They have Arthur Greene back, their starting lock last season, he’s in the reserves for this match. There’s not much change to the starting XV from last week, it looks like Demetri Patterson is missing so they’ve rearranged the backline. Tyler Wong also missing from the reserves this week.
Westshore missing a couple of key Kenyans in the backline, Olindi and Oyoo. A big addition in the forwards is Ryder Heaney-Corns who was at UVic last season. Missing from last week besides the Kenyan flyers, Porter Gook, Seth Recalma, Thomas Cuzange and Chris Rose.
It should be another close match and a toss up in the prediction department. New Capilano coach Curry Hitchborn has a reputation for getting results and their 57 point game last week looks impressive. We didn’t see much defence in Week 1 with everyone getting bonus points, can either team impose themselves defensively? Not sure about this one but Westshore missing more starters. Prediction: Capilano by +2.

Ravens had a bye last week but went south of the border to defeat Seattle in a Battle of the Border match, the Lomas let in 57 points against Caps but scored 40 of their own.
Our first look at the Ravens roster for this season, Brian Ndirangu has moved over from Westshore and Niko Andrianos from UBC. Andrew Coe and Josiah Morra two national team level players are in the starting XV. Only two Carsons to start the season. Jamin Hodgkins has joined the team and is in the reserves, a good option at #10 when Coe isn’t starting. No sign of Reegan O’Gorman, Lockie Kratz, Noah Bain, David O’Donaghue from their championship side in May. Lewis Ahrens at fullback attended the Canada U20 camp this summer.
A few rotations from the reserves for this match, Corne Ludick and Eoin Buckley slot into the loose forwards, Rhys Tucker at tighthead prop, Jacob Walmsley at fullback. Veteran Mark Rickard comes into the match 23 and gets the start at hooker
It’s hard to bet against the defending champions, defeating Seattle in their week off. Prediction: Ravens by +8.
