UBC Win 1st Tournament of Women’s CanWest Series; TWU 2nd, UVic 3rd
The three BC universities took the top 3 spots in the first tournament of the three tournament CanWest series. The big surprise was TWU edging UVic for second spot as they won the head to head 12-5. UBC were the dominant team in the tournament going undefeated. Adia Pye of UBC was the leading try scorer with 8 tries, scoring at least one try in each of UBC’s matches.
The next tournament will be hosted by TWU on February 7th and 8th.
2025 Canada West Women’s Rugby 7s Tournament Kicks Off on Saturday in Edmonton: Includes Three BC Universities TWU, UBC, UVic
The CanWest women’s 7s tournament has been going since 2016, Calgary won the first title in 2016-17 and then it has been all BC since then with UVic winning the next four and UBC winning the last two.
UBC probably go in as favourites as both reigning 7s and XVs university champions. UVic will be the main competition, based on recent years’ results. We have the UBC roster posted below, we haven’t seen the UVic or TWU rosters yet. UBC feature a couple of players who were recently on the Canada 7s squad, Shalaya Valenzuela and Adia Pye.

Six teams from across Canada West are ready to battle in the upcoming 2025 Canada West Rugby 7s series! The season consists of three action packed tournaments, kicking off Jan. 25 to 26 in Edmonton and also including stops in Langley (Feb. 7-8) and Victoria (March 1-2).
All games will be available to stream for free on Canada West TV.

RANKING FORMAT
All the teams participating in the Series will receive competition points according to their ranking at the end of each tournament. The overall winner of the 2025 Canada West Rugby 7s Series will be determined by the team with the most series points as set out below:
1st Place – 10 Points
2nd Place – 8 Points
3rd Place – 6 Points
4th Place – 4 Points
5th Place – 2 Points
6th Place – 1 Points
In the event of two or more teams being equal on points for any position on the series table, the team with the highest margin of points scored for and against in all the Series matches shall be the higher ranked.
