Capilano 2nd Division Women

Both Capilano RFC Women’s teams were originally scheduled to have the weekend off. On Friday, the Capilano 2nd Division Women agreed to an exhibition match to get more game time. This was played a division up takin on the Abbotsford 1st Division Women. The Caps Women put 31 points on the board but were defeated by the home side. Following the post match at Abbotsford, the Women showed great club support on the sideline for the Caps Men at Burnaby.

The coming weekend will see the Capilano Premier Women host Westshore at Klahanie Park. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:45pm.

Capilano Men at Burnaby

On a beautiful warm (for February) day at the Burnaby Lake Sports Complex the Lakers and the Caps put on two great games. The spectators of both games were treated to two hard fought battles that were both in doubt until the final the final whistle blew.

In the 1st Div. game Burnaby had the lead at halftime only to be edged out of victory near full time by a determined Capilano crew.

In the Prems game it was Caps with the small lead at half only to be pipped by the blue and white at the death. It doesn’t get much better than that. With the rivalry that exists for this matchup and the desire to win so prevalent neither team could afford to have passengers in these games and they didn’t.

1st Division Men

The 1st’s game had the Lakers go ahead 11-0 on the strength of two penalties and a nice try. The Caps did themselves no favors by taking far too many penalties, however, just before halftime Graeme Neill Klein bulled one over for Caps that with the extras made it 11-7 for the blue and white at the halftime whistle.

The second half had Capilanos score two tries and one convert while the Lakers dotted down once with the convert good. The lead changed three times in the second half and both teams had several opportunities to add to their totals only to be stifled by the opposition. The final score was 19-18 for the Capilanos.

This was a big win for the Cap 1st Div. team as Burnaby traditionally has a strong 1st Div. side that has given the Caps fits over the years.

Notable players:

For Burnaby I thought the fullback Blake Steele controlled the game very well from his position.

For Capilanos I thought Duncan Hladik and Graeme Neill Klein were both impressive with their line breaking runs.

Premier Men

Burnaby struck first in the Prem game with a converted try to jump ahead 7-0. Caps roared back with two tries and a convert to take a 12-7 lead at the half.

The second half saw Burnaby flip the score in their favor with two converted tries against one converted try for the Caps. The Lakers scored their final try right at full time and made a difficult convert that had the home team supporters in a joyous mood.

A great game to watch with both teams trying to play more open style of offence which hasn’t always been the case in the past

Thanks to Burnaby for hosting and thanks to the ref.
