World Rugby Recommends Postponement of Rugby World Cup 2021 in New Zealand Until 2022

World Rugby has made the difficult decision to recommend the postponement of Rugby World Cup 2021, scheduled to be hosted in New Zealand between 18 September-16 October, until next year. The recommendation will be considered by the Rugby World Cup Board and World Rugby Executive Committee on 8 and 9 March respectively.

World Rugby came out with a bold statement in support of the RWC 2021 in New Zealand, vowing to set new match attendance records. This against a backdrop of COVID worries around the world and the NZ Prime Minister stating the “New Zealand’s borders are likely to remain closed for much of the year as health officials assess global vaccine roll-outs”.

RWC 2023 Pools Announced – Canada Now Has Plan A, B or C to Make the Tournament
Canada has never missed qualifying for a Rugby World Cup, they just squeezed into the last one in Japan when they went to the repechage and found two top European sides had been disqualified due to player ineligibility. Germany had suddenly found themselves the top European side (Europe 3) in the repechage so Canada just had to dispatch Germany, Kenya and Hong Kong to make the World Cup. They were fortunate, that was Plan C. Canada has always gone Plan A before that.
