World Rugby 7s Series Kicks Off Friday; MacDowell Rugby in Mexico; Pride v Seattle on Saturday; Provincial Youth Club Championships on Sunday
The BC Rugby leagues have shut down for the winter break but there is rugby to watch both locally and online this weekend. The 7s Series kicks off in Dubai, the Mexico 7s U19 tournament starts on Saturday, locally there’s the Pacific Pride vs Seattle at Starlight Stadium on Saturday and on Sunday the Provincial Youth Club Championships at UBC.
World Rugby 7s Series
It’s called HSBC SVNS now but whatever, it’s the World Rugby 7s series. It looks like CBC Sports isn’t streaming it this year, if you go to the CBC Sports site for live streaming, it’s all curling, nothing but curling. Also the World Rugby site doesn’t list Canada anymore in their list of broadcasters for the 7s series.
Not to worry though, it looks like RugbyPass.TV is covering all the action. They’ll cover both fields as well as it looks like the tournament will take place on two separate fields in Dubai.
So the tournament starts on Friday, BC time. The schedule is here. Canada women kickoff at 9pm vs France, the USA v Spain game is on at the same time, so you’ll have to find which stream on RugbyPass.TV is showing the Canada match.
You can find our earlier article here with the rosters
MacDowell Rugby
MacDowell Rugby is in Mexico with 2 U19 teams for a 7s tournament and that is supposed to be live streamed as well. That stream will be on the Rugby Mexico facebook page.
You can look at our earlier article to see the MacDowell team rosters.
The tournament kicks off at 9am local time on Saturday, so 7am on the west coast.
Pride v Seattle
There is a local game on the Island, a good quality match as well, as Seattle visit Starlight Stadium on Saturday to take on the Pride. Kickoff for that match is 3:45pm. Last year I believe Seattle gave the Pride a good hiding, so we’ll see if the Pride have their focus and bring their A game on Saturday. We’ll post the rosters when they’re made available.
There’s the Celebration of Life for Kevin “Lunk” Wirachowski as well at 6pm, that’s at the Officers Mess in Esquimalt. The facebook page for that event is here.
