Vancouver Highlanders Sponsor High School Male Rugby “Athlete of the Week” Program
A good initiative by the Highlanders as they look at future players who might fill their ranks in years to come. It’s long range planning at its best. We’ve also updated the Highlanders news since our last post, appended below.

Dear British Columbia High School Rugby Coaches,
We hope this email finds you well and in good spirits. As we gear up for the upcoming rugby season, we wanted to take a moment to introduce you to an exciting initiative that we at the Vancouver Highlanders are launching: the BC High School Male Rugby “Athlete of the Week” program.
At the Vancouver Highlanders, we understand the importance of recognizing and celebrating exceptional people who not only excel on the field but also demonstrate outstanding qualities off the field. With that in mind, we are thrilled to announce that each week, we will be selecting one nominated male athlete from BC secondary schools to feature on our social media platforms.
The selected male athlete will receive the title of “Athlete of the Week” and will be presented with a Vancouver Highlanders hat as a token of our appreciation for their dedication and hard work. We believe that this program not only highlights the remarkable talent within our community but also serves as a source of inspiration for aspiring athletes across the province.
Here are some criteria for nominations:
Athletic Performance: The nominated athlete should have demonstrated exceptional skill and performance in rugby or other sports.
Academic Excellence: We value student-athletes who excel not only on the field but also in the classroom. The nominee should be an excellent student who prioritizes their academic success.
Community Leadership: We are looking for individuals who actively contribute to their communities and demonstrate leadership qualities both on and off the field.
Team Player: The nominee should exemplify the spirit of teamwork and collaboration, showing respect for teammates, coaches, and opponents alike.
Fortitude: We admire athletes who exhibit resilience, perseverance, and determination in the face of challenges.
Future Highlanders: We are particularly interested in athletes who embody the values and spirit of the Vancouver Highlanders and who we believe have the potential to contribute to our team in the future.
We encourage you to nominate deserving athletes from your school by sending us their name, grade, club, hometown, a brief description of why they deserve to be recognized, a photo of the athlete, and any supporting information. We will announce the selected athletes every Monday via our social media channels until the end of season.
Thank you for your support, and we look forward to celebrating the incredible achievements of BC high school athletes throughout the upcoming season. If you have any questions or require further information, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Best regards,
Randall Barton
