Vancouver Highlanders Offer Free Admission for Opening Games on Friday

The Highlanders have walked back their plan to charge $40 plus fees ($46.39) for their opening games this Friday at Burnaby, (see previous article). They now are offering free admission, you can even “buy” online for $0 from their website.

It’s a good decision, if you check other rugby offerings, you can buy basic entry MLR tickets for $20, Rugby Canada tickets for $30, they were out of the park with $40 minimum for adults. They are more realistically based at a $20 rate for cheap tickets, and they can add premium options above that. They’re not based out of a stadium and fans don’t know what they’re offering in terms of fan experience.

I just returned from a Seattle Seawolves weekend and it was a good fan experience. The youth teams I travelled with got free tickets and the stadium was packed with fans, fireworks, mascot, half time show, the full pro sport entertainment package. The Highlanders just starting out need to show what they’re offering. I would expect a number of youth teams getting deals, $20 minimum adult admission, and pay for premium perks above that.

We’ll see how it goes, the Highlanders are a bold venture, we wish them all the best. The Canada Selects team announcement is here and we expect the Highlanders to be pumping out media releases this week with the 1st XV roster, the Reserve roster and the Barbados roster, also the live stream details.

Rosters Announced

Even though the lineups haven’t been announced yet, the rosters are available. The Highlanders finally indicated which team is playing which opponent. The 1st team is playing the Canada Selects at 4:30pm and the Reserves are playing Barbados at 7pm.
