Week 13 Results: 22 Canada-Eligible Players in Action

Week 13 of MLR wrapped up with 22 Canada-eligible players in action, 16 starters and 6 in reserves. Half of the Canadian starters were with the New England team who field 8 Canadian starters on the day. Houston and New England remain top of the West and East conferences.

Highlanders Add Tom Richardson, Cole Kelly, Demetri Patterson to Reserves; Name Inno De Cotiis as 6th High School Player of the Week

The Highlanders have added 3 more Reserve players to their roster since our last update: Tom Richardson, a loose forward from the James Bay Premier side; Cole Kelly a tighthead prop from Trinity College who was on Canada’s U20 team last year; Demetri Patterson an outside back from UBC.

UBCOB Ravens Visit Mexico; MacDowell Rugby to Germany; Madrid 7s Pools Announced; Francois Ratier and Stade Bordelais in France Elite Semi-Finals

A few destinations around the world that caught my eye involving Canadian teams and players. The UBCOB Ravens just returned from playing the Mexico National XVs team, MacDowell Rugby are travelling to Germany in June, the Madrid 7s pools were announced and Francois Ratier and his Stade Bordelais team are in the France Elite league playoffs.

Week 12 of MLR wrapped up with 29 Canada-eligible players in action, 16 starters and 13 in reserves. Mitch Richardson and Dewald Kotze of the Dallas Jackals  became the first Canadian players to reach 11 starts in the season. There are 6 weeks left in the regular season.

Canada Defeat NZ for Historic Win and Pacific Four Title: Video Highlights

It was looking ominous in the first half with NZ scoring two tries from the backline and leading 14-10 at the half. As usual for Canada it was the forwards and the maul that did the damage on attack, setting up all three Canadian tries.

Vancouver Highlanders Update – May 2024

Highlanders Add Karl Hunger and Relmu Wilson-Valdes to Roster; Asfand Saeed to Reserves and Name Roman Ruediger-Fancy as 5th High School Player of the Week

The Vancouver Highlanders have added Karl Hunger to their roster. Hunger had been signed by Dallas Jackals of the MLR but didn’t get any playing time this season, subsequently he’s returned to Canada and signed with the Highlanders. The Highlanders also announced the signing of Relmu Wilson-Valdes of UBC.

Match Official Updates – May 2024

Canadian Match Official Appointments This Summer for Internationals and Olympics:  Talal Chaudhry, Robin Kaluzniak, Chris Assmus, Shanda Assmus, Julianne Zussman

There were a number of Canadian match official appointments made this summer by World Rugby. Talal Chaudhry was selected for Rugby 7s at the Olympics, he’ll be working in the women’s tournament. Robin Kaluzniak will be Assistant Referee in two test matches this summer, USA vs Romania and USA vs Scotland. Chris Assmus will be the TMO at the USA vs Scotland match.

Editorial – May 2024

What is Ailing the Men’s 7s Team and a Look at the Repechage Tournament

The Canadian men’s 7s team have lost 25 games in a row, they’ve finished last in all events except one. They’re entering the repechage tournament in Madrid in 19 days, it’s an 8 team tournament with the top 4 teams remaining in the series next season. We already know Canada are in a pool with USA and the remaining two teams in their pool will be chosen from the top four group of the Challenger series, currently Uruguay, Kenya, Chile and Germany. There’s one more Challenger tournament this coming weekend in Germany to decide the final Challenger rankings.
