BC Premier Week 3 Results: Westshore Edged by Bays, Burnaby @ Lomas Cancelled, CW Fall to Pride, UBC Defeat UVic, Ravens @ Capilano Cancelled
The BC Premier enters Week 3 after the Thanksgiving break, I’m in Guatemala at the Gran Jaguar 7s tournament with the Howlers. A couple of BC Premier props are here as well playing for the Howlers, Denver Fatt and Simeon John. Late notice that the Caps v Ravens game was cancelled due to field closures, also we’ve been advised the Lomas v Burnaby match was cancelled/postponed for the same reason.
Pacific Pride 38 v Castaway Wanderers 5 @ 14:30
Referee: Nathaniel Hight AR1: Dan Cvitanovich AR2: Andrew Owen
Venue: Cowichan Rugby Club
Well we got this one very wrong, after a shaky start to the Premier season and a big loss to the Ravens in their last outing, the Pride rebounded with a comprehensive win over CW in wet conditions. Next week the Pride visit James Bay while CW have a bye.
PREGAME
CW tied for 2nd place with UBC with 2 wins apiece, the Pride in 9th place with one loss.
CW missing their tighthead prop, Denver Fatt, this week who is with the Howlers 7s team at the Gran Jaguar tournament in Guatemala. Gavin Kratz moves over to tighthead and Alex McCullum comes off the bench to start at loosehead prop, Antonio Corbin gets the start at hooker. In the backs Jordan Tait moves to fullback and Matt Sutherland comes off the bench to start in the centres.
The Pride have stuck with most of the lineup that lost to the Ravens two weeks ago. Austin Creighton gets the start at hooker with Neil Trainor moving to the reserves. Liam Poulton and Kyle Tremblay come off the bench to get the start in the backline. Rhys James moves from wing to fullback.
How the CW pack, without their starting tighthead, hold up against their Pride counterparts will be key but we haven’t seen CW lose very many matches with Gradyn Bowd starting at #10. Prediction: CW by 5.
