ViaSport Enters “Progressively Loosen” Stage for Sports Activities Starting August 24th: BCRU Publishes Their Return to Rugby Plans for Touch and Flag Rugby

ViaSport, the provincial authority on Return to Sport protocol, announced the “Progressively Loosen” stage will start August 24th. “As of August 24, sport activities should adhere to the “Progressively Loosen” stage of the Sport Activity Chart.”

Return to Sport Plans for Rugby Union and Rugby League in BC: Union No Contact Until January; League a Maybe on 9s in September

BC Government Issues Ministerial Order to Protect Amateur Sport Organizations from COVID-19 Liability – Rugby Still on National Suspension of Activity

Yesterday the BC Government made a huge announcement, that they were going to remove one of the roadblocks worrying amateur sport organizers, liability claims based on COVID-19. The BC Government announced that the “Government has created a ministerial order that protects amateur sport organizations, their employees and volunteers from liability.” It’s a first in Canada as far as we know.

BCRU reported the score as UBC 7 – Kamloops 19, in actuality they missed a 2, it should have been UBC 72 – Kamloops 19. It sort of makes a difference. Apologies to the UBC Alumni who were getting heart palpitations and google mapping the nearest emergency room.]

It Takes a Village…

This weekend we went more grassroots, we didn’t cover the BC Premier match but focused on Div 1, Women’s Rugby and U14. Thanks to Pro Fit Sports for the hoodies and Heritage House Trophies for the medals. Here are some of the pics from the weekend. It’s especially rewarding to work with youth rugby and a reminder where it all begins, it takes a community to raise a rugby player.

USA Eagles Assemble for Uruguay 8 of 27 in BC Leagues; One Uni Folds Another Starts; The Return of the National Players

The USA Eagles prepare for their World Cup qualification matches with Uruguay with a camp in Atlanta this weekend. They meet Uruguay in a home and away series on March 22nd and 29th. An astounding 8 of the 27 play in BC leagues. 6 are with the Div 1 Seattle-OPSB team and 2 with BC Premier team James Bay.
