Return to Play Updates – December 2020

BCRU Targets April as a Possible Return to Rugby Phase 4 Time Frame

The BCRU sent out a final 2020 missive on the 18th of December and the news isn’t great. They’re basically predicting a post Spring-break time frame for any type of contact rugby. The exact wording is as follows: “Phase 4 Return to Rugby activities (i.e. inter-club competition, modified contact) unfortunately is further away than we had hoped… We remain hopeful that some sort of competition will be possible after Spring-break, at the very least, ‘end of season’ regional tournaments.”

BC Rugby Announces Update to Return to Rugby Plan: Opens Possibility of Low Contact Rugby in January 2021

BC Rugby (BCRU) have revisited their interpretation of the viaSport “Progressively Loosen” phase and have now projected a “low-contact” version of rugby for January 2021. There’s no change to the “non-contact” club mandate for the rest of 2020.

Bayside RFC Launch New 10 Week Bayside Touch Rugby League

Bayside RFC in South Surrey is back on the pitch.

Bayside were one of the first rugby clubs to complete the required phase 2 and 3 sanctioning process and have recently conducted a 2 day youth rugby training camp where nearly 40 kids eagerly signed up for the socially distanced rugby skills camp.

ViaSport Enters “Progressively Loosen” Stage for Sports Activities Starting August 24th: BCRU Publishes Their Return to Rugby Plans for Touch and Flag Rugby

ViaSport, the provincial authority on Return to Sport protocol, announced the “Progressively Loosen” stage will start August 24th. “As of August 24, sport activities should adhere to the “Progressively Loosen” stage of the Sport Activity Chart.”

It Takes a Village…

This weekend we went more grassroots, we didn’t cover the BC Premier match but focused on Div 1, Women’s Rugby and U14. Thanks to Pro Fit Sports for the hoodies and Heritage House Trophies for the medals. Here are some of the pics from the weekend. It’s especially rewarding to work with youth rugby and a reminder where it all begins, it takes a community to raise a rugby player.

USA Eagles Assemble for Uruguay 8 of 27 in BC Leagues; One Uni Folds Another Starts; The Return of the National Players

The USA Eagles prepare for their World Cup qualification matches with Uruguay with a camp in Atlanta this weekend. They meet Uruguay in a home and away series on March 22nd and 29th. An astounding 8 of the 27 play in BC leagues. 6 are with the Div 1 Seattle-OPSB team and 2 with BC Premier team James Bay.
