Coaching Updates – October 2026

Kevin Rouet Has Coaching Contract Extended to End of 2030

When you’ve kept the Canada XVs team in the top 3 in the world and placed 2nd at the World Cup, it’s a given you should have your contract extended. Why now though is open to speculation, did he receive a solid offer from abroad? In 2025 Rugby Canada extended his contract to the end of 2027, now they’re locking him in until the end of 2030. The World Cup is in 2029. He’s not only head coach, he’s Director of Women’s Rugby. One statement that Rouet keeps mentioning in his interviews, and one we don’t hear so much on the men’s side, is his commitment to developing high-performance pathways domestically, as he’s quoted below, “I also look forward to continuing to help develop the high-performance pathway for women’s rugby in Canada.” That’s why he’s a keeper, hopefully Rugby Canada will apply the same logic when looking for a men’s coach and potential Director of Men’s Rugby after the 2027 World Cup.

On the eve of one of the biggest events in Canadian rugby history, Rugby Canada is pleased to announce that Kevin Rouet will continue in his role as Head Coach of Canada’s Women’s Rugby Team through the end of 2030.

Since being appointed Head Coach in March 2022, Rouet has guided Canada through two Rugby World Cups, highlighted by the team’s historic run at the 2025 Rugby World Cup, where Canada captured silver and secured its best finish at the tournament since 2014. Rouet’s remarkable journey leading Canada at the world cup last year was captured in ALL HEART: A RUGBY STORY, a four-part docuseries streaming now on Crave that offers an inside look at the people, passion and perseverance behind the Canadian women’s rugby team.

“Kevin has done an outstanding job leading our women’s programs, highlighted by Canada’s historic run to the Rugby World Cup final in 2025 and the team’s sustained position among the top teams in the world since he stepped into the role in 2022,” said Nathan Bombrys, CEO of Rugby Canada. “His leadership has been world-class, and we are pleased to extend Kevin’s contract through 2030. As Both the Head Coach and Director of Women’s Rugby, his leadership will put our women in the best position to succeed at the LA Olympics in 2028 and the next Rugby World Cup in 2029.”

Under Rouet’s leadership, Canada has continued to establish itself among the world’s top rugby nations, recording a 31-12-2 record and achieving several significant milestones, including a historic first-ever victory over New Zealand and a Pacific Four Series title. Canada also held the world No. 2 ranking from May 2024 until April 2026, marking a sustained period of success on the international stage.

“I am very excited for the opportunity to continue coaching this team for the next four years,” said Rouet. “We have grown so much as a group since I began in 2022, and I am excited to see what our teams and players can achieve as we build towards the 2028 Olympics and the 2029 Rugby World Cup. I also look forward to continuing to help develop the high-performance pathway for women’s rugby in Canada. It’s going to be an exciting next cycle.”

The contract extension comes as Rouet and Canada’s Women’s Rugby Team prepare for a historic homecoming in Toronto this Friday, October 16, at BMO Field. In a highly anticipated rematch of the 2025 Rugby World Cup final, Canada will face world No. 1 England in front of a record-breaking crowd of more than 18,000 fans, the largest attendance ever for a standalone women’s rugby match in North American history. Beyond results on the field, Rouet has been instrumental in championing Rugby Canada’s One Squad philosophy, fostering greater collaboration across the organization’s national teams and programs. His leadership has helped strengthen the connection between Canada’s rugby programs while building a shared vision for the continued growth and success of the sport nationwide.
